@Anna C.: The ultrasounds are priced ridiculously high at my doctor's clinic as well...my first full OB U/S to determine gestational age (with full bladder and also transvaginal post void) cost $3000.00 but my thank God my insurance took care of most of it and I only have to pay $30.00 for that one. My insurance also has an unlimited ultrasounds policy as long as the doctor determines that they are necessary. Oh and these are all 2D U/S, my insurance will not pay for any 3D U/S. Those, if I elect them, will be out of pocket 100%. So I guess that is fair enough. Also, my doctor is considering me a high-risk pregnancy because of my issues with hypertension. Although it is in control right now, after week 30, I will be in the doctor's office twice a week to make sure it is in control and that everything is going smoothly, so vaginal delivery (hopefully it is vaginal) plus the high risk factor equals $4100 as the doctor's charges for delivery only. The insurance will of course be billed after my delivery, I guess I will probably have to pay around $300 or so...still need to find out. But I do know that all maternity coverage for me is 80/20. Whoever said it is EXPENSIVE to have a baby is correct, INDEED!

@Happy Bunny: Those pics are just precious!

@chnst: I was going to say it pretty much sounds like girls for early next year, but so happy to find out that Ben is having a brother! I can't wait to find out in mid Novemeber what I am having! I am wishing for a boy but normal and healthy is the ultimate desire

Lisa, boy does Nick look comfy! (and adorable, of course)

I hope everyone is well, and congrats on all the girls and...lone boy, it looks like.

10 days until my due date. Yay! The end is near! I feel I should be at least a little freaked out about the birth, but the pregnancy has been so miserable, I can't wait for it to be over. And to meet the little one, of course.

MARM, I hear you about the testing. There are so many options, it makes your head spin. I was waffling between having no testing at all, and having the CVS at the earliest opportunity (I'm 37). At the suggestion of my OB, I opted for the NT scan & bloodwork screening at 12 weeks. The results were very good, so I decided to skip the more invasive testing. If something had shown up as a cause for concern, I would have gone for the amnio or CVS depending on the timing. I also had some sort of spinal defects screening, in the form of a blood test, a few weeks later. All looked good w/ that. I didn't have the cystic fibrosis testing. Not sure if any of that is helpful or applies to you, but it does seem that a lot of OBs are recommending the NT/bloodwork combo because it's not invasive and is a pretty reliable screening.

Stef, I'm sorry to hear about your high-risk situation. I feel like sort of a wimp, what with all my bitching and moaning about the rather standard third trimester discomfort/waddle/involuntary groaning, etc. How are you feeling now?

thanks all! I feel pretty good, just that feeling that my right leg is about to fall off any time. I walk into the kitchen or downstairs and all of a sudden my leg is going somewhere else. it's creepy to feel so "unstable" in my hips but so far I can deal with the pain although I had to stop walking/running. But on the bright side the doctor gave the baby an A+ so that's the most important part! Yay for being so close to the delivery! I remember that I just wanted it to be over it at that point too regardless of the birth. LOL @ involuntary groaning and bitching, haha! You are totally entitled to that!

MARM: OMG those ultrasound prices are insane. I'm so glad we only have a small copay for ours too. I would probably not opt for the more invasive procedure like an amnio/CVS unless there was really a reason for concern. I did the ultrascreen for both babies and it gives me such peace of mind seeing the heart and the brain look ok with my own eyes. My sister had to have an abortion with a trisomie 18 baby last year and she is only 25, so I really wanted to make sure that everything is fine bc there are also some genetic disorders on my hubby's side of the family.

Missbollinger: congrats on the girl! :luv: I'm a little jealous of not getting to buy pink stuff. I'm starting to feel outnumbered, hehe.

@ Joyce: It must be exciting and time must seem to inch by as the day gets close...can't wait to hear the good news soon from you! With regards to the cystic fibrosis testing, I did get that done when I went for my checkup last Saturday. I guess it is standard procedure with my doctor. The test itself costs a hefty amount (it is in the thousands, thank God for insurance), and if I look back at the tests on that day...In addition to the cystic fibrosis test, I also had a thyroid profile as I am borderline hypothyroid, and: Urinalysis with microscopy(at every visit, as you all know) Urine culture, Antibiotic Sensitivity, HIV, Initial Prenatal Profile (not sure what tests that includes, I should find out), Ferritin Serum, and Vitamin D. All of the above-mentioned tests are standard procedure at my doctor's office. I wonder if the NT/bloodwork will come later...he did mention some more testing later on as standard procedure, I remember him mentioning down's syndrome testing as one of them.

@chnst: What is exactly is the ultrascreen? (excuse my obliviousness  ) I would be interested in that if it helps screen out important risk factors or genetic disorders. And to say the least, I admire the attitude you express when dealing with the high-risk situation (F). Take care of yourself :)

Stef - So sorry to hear about your pelvis ... I remember when you were in the hospital with Ben and how long it took for someone to figure out something was wrong. Hoping this pregnancy goes well. Yay for a boy!!! I think 2 little boys are so sweet :) Any names yet?

Lisa - Nick is so adorable! I do understand how you felt about the cloth you bought before pregnant and couldnt wait to see your baby in it :) I had the same thought too.

Wow.. a lone boy, Congratulation chnst!!! I would love to have 2 boys hehe.

All these talking about pregnancy and new babies make me want to have another one now, but then Sam is still sooo enjoyable I couldnt imagine having another one right now lol. I do miss the time when he was a new born though.. those jerky movement, new born cries, quiver lips.... miss it.. I saw he moved his hand last night and it was a very smooth movement and I missed the old days (just 3 months ago!!)....

MARM: the ultrascreen is that ultrasound that you have around 12 weeks and 20 weeks to measure the nuchal chord and to look at the major organ systems and then the accompanying blood test for the 12 week test. It's a routine but you don't have to do it. I think this is what your doctor has suggested for you. Just my doctor calls it the "ultrascreen"

Does anyone have any suggestions to make my baby tolerate tummy time better? she usually starts crying after only about 2-3 minutes. She briefly lifts her head but gets frustrated very easily. Sometimes she already starts crying as soon as I flip her over.

I do carry her upright (at the shoulder) a lot more now so she can train head holding this way. I don't know what else to do. She is 10 weeks now.

Placing her on her tummy against your chest as you are laying counts as tummy time too so try reclining on a bed and doing it that way. She probably doesn't like being 'alone' and mommy time might make it easier for her.
