is tax transcript necessary

Hello,

I apologize if this question has been asked before. Do we need to send tax transcripts to prove that we filed together the last 2 years, or a photocopy of the tax returns is ok?

They prefer tax transcripts - and they are so easy and free to get! However if you just send copies of the tax returns, don't forget to send your W2s too, lots of people have gotten RFEs for those. With tax transcripts, they are official from the IRS so you don't need to include the W2s.

Thanks for the information on how to obtain the transcripts. I do have a question though....

It will take some time before I receive the transcripts and the 90 days before my wife's conditional greencard expires starts on Feb. 15th. (expires May 13th)

If I don't receive the transcripts before the 15th is it o.k. to wait for the transcripts and then send in the I-751? In other words... Is it alright

to send the I-751 within 80 or 85 days of the conditional greencard expiration or must it be 90 days?

I'd also like to get our 2009 taxes completed but still waiting for a couple of 1099s to arrive.

It can be sent in at any time between day 90 and day 1 before expiry.
