I'm not going to comment on the AOS/AP because I'm not there yet in my "journey"....but I can offer advice on NEXUS:

First, awesome!

Second, the membership is $50 & lasts 5 years. If you cross at the Ambassador Bridge, you can stop in the Duty-Free place & get a "transponder" for your vehicle. The transponder combined with the NEXUS pass lowers the toll rate. That's what I did. I crossed the Ambassador Bridge 3-4 times a week & it was the way to go.

But, like others said, don't expect a hassle-free crossing just because you're frequent/have NEXUS....they do random searches. You want to be squeeky clean!!

Something I read on the NEXUS web site was :

Individuals may qualify to participate in NEXUS if they are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada, have resided in either or both countries for the past three years and who pass criminal history and law enforcement checks.

You should call them (1-866-NEXUS26) for advice on your situation. She is a citizen of Canada, but resides in the U.S. I can't see a problem, but I'd call. There's a local office in Detroit.

Hope that helps. If she's going to travel daily....definitley get the card.

Oh yeah. The NEXUS pass has been a godsend for me. But I agree that it doesn't stop them from asking questions or doing searches -- the only time I've ever really been grilled at the POE was one time in the NEXUS lane. Fortunately I had my return itinerary with me.

Nexus card is supposed to mean "trusted traveler". Last night at Port Huron the NEXUS lane had 2 border guards, one that opened all my luggage and examined it for contraband, and one who "talked to me". They found a ziplock bag of allergy meds that I had taken out of an almost empty bottle, and I got "harassed" about it. Thankfully I still had a bottle in my purse, otherwise I would have gotten secondary inspection. Totally unexpected.

I prefer going into Canada. They just look at me and smile and wave!

I went through the Nexus line with groceries and got harrassed about lemons and green onions. However, my shitake mushrooms, taro stems, and Vietnamese basil got a pass? LOL, that was the last time I brought groceries across.

Then on one occasion, the Nexus line had a lineup and the regular lines didn't so I scooted out to the regular line and got questioned why I, a nexus card holder, did not go through the Nexus line. ???

LOL, otherwise, most of the time the Nexus lines are great!
