Hi everyone...

We are almost there!!!! 42 days & counting till Visa Interview in Montreal... This waiting is the worst!!!!!!!!!!!! :protest::ranting: The interview is March 29th & it seems like forever away - maybe because I'm busy counting the days...

Davids medical is scheduled in Toronto for next Monday & it will be very nice to get it done...

I need to get the medical stuff together & then verify all of our paperwork is complete & in order & then we just wait for the end of March to get here...

I have a question for any of you who know... We need to use a co-sponsor (my brother)... His income is short by only $600 or so (figured on him sponsoring my husband David the immigrant & me & our daughter the US citizens)... We have included as an assett one of his cars worth at least $3000 --- Do you think this will be sufficient???

Anyway thats about it... Wait wait & wait..... UUUGGGHHHH!!!

Hugs

US citizens don't need sponsors.

Will you be a member of your brother's household?

Started sorting/packing yet? :)

Hi meauxna,

I have been quite confused by this sponsor stuff... I have been told so many things when I call the consulate that I just don't know what to think... My brother lives ALONE in his own house, although at some times during the year he lets my parents stay with him... But technically he lives alone as they take care of themselves completely & the only person he is responsible for is himself... He has no wife & no children...

We are not moving in with him but we are moving into a house in the next town... I have been told that he would only need to qualify for himself & for my husband (the immigrant) & he definately meets the income requirement for that... But I have also been told that he must qualify for all sponsoring all 3 of us (my husband the immigrant & both me & our daughter - the US citizens) if that is the case, then he is about $600 short on income & therefore (just to be safe) we added one of his cars worth around $3000 as an assett... I just don't want to get there & have that stop the process because we didn't do it correctly...

And yes, we have started packing & selling off lots of our stuff... It will be such a pain to acquire all of our household goods again... But definately worth it in the end... Getting very excited!!!

Thanks for any advice you can give on this subject...

Hugs

Tanya

hi Tanya :)

I know it's a bit of a foreign language when it's new... who told you the above?

I think that if you read the I-864 itself, the answer will be fairly clear.

Your brother (Joint sponsor) has his household (1 person/himself) plus the sponsored immigrant. I can't see any more people in the picture! :P

Go over the instructions again, weigh the source of the above info, and keep looking until you find your answer. I think the I-864 instuctions will make it clear, too--search for the FAQ at uscis.gov and at travel.state.gov

I'll go have a look for one of my consoldated threads with all those links in them.. lost somewhere over at the old fora.

As per the I-864

"As a sponsor, your household income must equal or exceed 125 percent of the Federal poverty line for your household size.

For the purpose of the affidavit of support, household size includes

- yourself,

- all persons related to you by birth, marriage, or adoption living in your residence,

- your dependents,

- any immigrants you have previously sponsored using INS Form I-864 if that obligation has not terminated, and

- the intending immigrant(s) in Part 3 of this affidavit of support."

So if you brother lives on his own, and has not sponsored any other immigrants previously, he just has a household of 2 - him and your husband. HTH.

good luck with the interview! :)

Liz

Thank you all so much!!! You have been so helpful! :D

I do have a couple more questions if you all don't mind...

#1----- When we actually go to the embassy (appointment is at 9:30am) how much in advance should we actually arrive???

#2 ----- Will they have a problem if all 3 of us go in to the interview??? I would really like to be there with my husband, but we must take our baby girl with us & she can't be left alone... So either it will be just him or all 3 of us... I'm hoping they wont have a problem with all of us going in... Anyone know???

#3------ We have two cats, a utility trailer, & a huge stock of prescription medication that I require on a daily basis (including hundreds of needles) --- How do I find out the requirements for taking these things across the border when we move??? The website for the border control does not say much about information for persons moving to the USA, only people visiting...

#4 ----- I know that for all of the items we are taking, we need a list of what is in each box - etc. --- How specific does it need to be??? Is it like (spring clothes for the baby, or --- baby clothes including 57 shirts, 32 onesies, 5 pair of shoes, etc)???

Thanks Tanya

Be there by 7:30. It's first come, first served. If you come at 9:30 like the letter says, you'll be waiting a very long time. I remember when I went for mine at Montreal, we were walking out the door at 9:30 and got to see the faces of all the people who came in when their letter said only to see about 30 people in front of them.

No, all three of you can go to the interview. THe little room you interview in may be a little cramped for 3, but they have no problem with the USC in the room.

If you have a prescription, they have no problem with it. In reality, you'll get little notice from the CBP as you are immigrating... No reason to check your stuff because you can bring it all anyways. Be sure you bring your vaccination papers for the animals.

You don't have to be that specific. You can list clothing and other items by box. (4 boxes personal clothing, 3 boxes kitchen utensils). Be sure to label all the boxes (which you should do when you're moving anyways). Larger items (TV's, Fridges, computers, etc.) should be listed by type and serial number.

Thank you so much for your help with my questions zyggy...

I do have one more ? about the prescription meds...

I have been stock piling this stuff because I never knew when it would not be covered under my husbands drug plan... Now that we are moving I definately NEED to take it all with me because it's very expensive stuff & I can not go without it... Do you think that they will have a problem if there is at least a years supply of it that I bring over???

Thanks

Tanya
