This is our experience.

The biometrics is simple and easy. We drove 4.5 hours the night before to Jacksonville Florida, spent the night in a hotel, then 4.5 hours home again for her biometrics. The biometrics appointment took all of 8 minutes!

You will need your appointment letter USCIS sent you, some ID (passport is fine). You will fill in a simple form (name, date of birth, place of birth etc.). They will call you then just your picture and fingerprints will be taken and then you are done. They will ask your name and date of birth etc. This is to make sure you are the correct person for the appointment. My wife was called in before we even had the form filled out.

We went to the appointment 3 hours early and they did not seem to notice or even care. Like the embassy, no electronics, cameras etc. inside. Why? It is a depressing waiting area that I would like to forget and certainly do not want to photograph!.......lol

This is NOT an AOS interview. That will be later in the process. We were lucky and our case was approved without an interview.
