I need a plan for our future trip as well, I can never sleep on planes. I am going to take tylenol PM...but I don't even know if it will work! I don't fall asleep easy. The travel tiredness and jet leg are torture imo for the first couple days.

As others have said, my husband's family would be insulted if we arrived and stayed at a hotel overnight. We arrive at night and there isn't bad traffic so it's maybe an hour ride to their place. I can't see staying in a hotel for that case. But they do have a decent bathroom! That's a plus. And it's more a celebration thing when we arrive, they would be very bummed out not to welcome us at the airport.

Those Somanex Sleep pills work pretty darn good, I usually time it so they kick in after the first meal.

Of course there was that time when I accidentally picked up a package of "No-Doz"... no kidding.

I could not figure out why nothing was happening so what else could I do.... I took one or two more.

Needless to say that was a longass flight, in fact that was the only time I was awake for the whole trip to Europe and it was unbearable.... I actually read "Sky Miles", front to back... 3 x

I guess it could have only been worse, if I were sick or had to wrestle a small child the whole time.

SO Bottom line, don't get Sominex and No-doz mixed up, there is a difference.

i lived on no-doz during college... i don't even think it works on me anymore... but that is pretty funny :)

That's not all either. Then there the water buffalos that chill out in/near all the ponds. Get too close and they charge. You get startled and slip on a big pile of buffalo dung. It's good I don't have a weak heart :P

Um that is not good! lol What is this place??

Tylenol is a pain reliever, not a sleep aid.

I am sure I will acquire some aches on the way! So it's a win win.

LOL...I have never used no-doz or Sominex. The only thing I worry about with sleeping aids is that my son is so young(about to turn two), he needs me and my husband for everything still. I don't want to get so drowsy that I can't function should I need to do something for my son. I don't know how it feels to take a sleep aid. I am functional on benedryl, but do you feel a LOT sleepier with something like Sominex? That's why I'd prefer tylenol PM, it seems a little less sleep inducing. But I really have no idea.

I am guessing it is more of an issue in countries with poor transportation systems like the Phil or India... places where landing at your destination means hours (sometimes days) remains between you and your final destination.

One of my fathers friends trips to India involves a 2-day journey by auto rickshaw, train and canoe to his family's village.

True. It's only 11 hours from Seattle to Stuttgart and then only another 45 minutes to the family's home.

SO Bottom line, don't get Sominex and No-doz mixed up, there is a difference.

 That's funny -- but I'm sure sucked at the time.

They're everywhere. This isn't a built up area at all. Very natural. I don't really like it.

Just want your opinion. Would you rather just get picked up by your family at the airport right after u land or" crash" at a hotel for a day just to sleep ,shower and get orientated???? Hubby and I are going back to Philippines after 3 years we get there at 11 am local time; however its after taking a long overnight flight. Me , being the American, want to just take a shower and pass out, before being inundated with family members and possibly taking a 4 hour ride in traffic (Manila) before we get to his house. My husband is cheap LOL an prob will not go for the hotel, however I know he is gonna be cranky when he lands....heheh. what would u do???

Just travel. I've never succumbed to jet lag.

1 Ambien cr

Board DFW, get the movie going, eat, finish movie, restroom, drink some water, ambien, drink some more water, blanket, sleeeeeeeeeep, wake, restroom, watch most of another movie, land NRT.

That routine cut a 13.5 hour flight to about 4 hours of awake time with a deep sleep in between the 4.

I guess it reacts according to the person but for me I just crash out..just as I might do at a tupperware party.

Once I did land in England I think and as I was nearly in the farthest row back, I just remained seated rather than do the "stand and wait" to deplane routine.

I actually fell back to sleep... next thing I know the flight attendant was waking me up saying "Sir, you will have to leave the plane now"..... Like I was some old drunk sleeping in someones doorway.

But on the upside... the cross atlantic flight did seem about 2 hours long at the most.

If I had a small kid, I would make a deal with the wife, where one sleeps going and the other sleeps on the return, that leaves someone to watch the kid..... or I would sominex the tykes AZZ too.

Hmm your sominex story scares me, about falling back asleep on the plane! lol

Our son will most likely sleep a lot of the time. It's a overnight flight to India. Last year he did, though we were all very uncomfortable because he was on our laps not in his own seat. This year he will be in his seat(in car seat) and should sleep well. But still if he happens to wake up at some pt I need to function. My husband can help, he falls asleep better than I do and wouldn't need an aid to fall asleep.
