I got a phone call, yes a phone call, from the Omaha USCIS yesterday (01/28/2010). The officer who called me asked if I was aware that I had an appointment that morning. I asked for what and she said it was for my marriage interview. I was very surprised because I had not received any notice in the mail. I also check the online status every day and it did not tell me anything about an interview (or any anything else for that matter). The status still says initial review and the last update was 12/07/2009. The officer also said they mailed my EAD on 12/28/09, but I have not gotten it. What is going on!!! And is it normal for them to call applicants to tell them about missing their apt?

It's not that common to hear from anyone, but there are no cut and dry rules with USCIS. The fact that they called it a "marriage interview" is very strange to me.

I would make an InfoPass appointment as some other posters have suggested to get to the bottom of what's going on with your case. If you have not received your EAD after being mailed in December, I would be a little concerned.

Good luck.

Well, I don't remember whether she actually said "marriage interview", but I knew that's what she was referring to. The officer told me "well, someone got your work permit" and that I would have to reapply and pay the fee again if I wanted a new one. She said they would try to reschedule the interview for about a month from now, hence, it will not make any sense to bother applying to the EAD again, which would cost 300 and something dollars. I guess, I'll try to get an info pass appointment.

It IS worth fighting for, and I will. I'm just a little bit disappointed right now. USCIS swears they sent it; USPS swears they would have delivered it. So what happened to it then?!!!! I wish they had given me the option to have my stuff sent certified mail; I would have been willing to pay more for that service.

My wife and I were making our plans based on me getting my employment authorization. She would never say it, but I know she really wants me to be able to get a job and start pulling my weight.

What are the steps to get an infopass appointment? My local office is Omaha as well and I'm starting to worry a bit because we haven't received our interview appointment letter yet. Biometrics were done on Dec. 1 and we received the work auth card about a week later but still haven't had notice of an interview date. The uscis website hasn't been updated with anything new on our case for almost 3 months. I've noticed that other people with the Omaha office , who filed after us, have already had their interviews.

Or is it better to just call and ask to speak to an officer, as the previous poster suggested?

Are you sure no one is messing w/ your mail? I'm surprised they don't send it in a more secure way (especially the EAD cards), really. We live in Omaha, too, and thankfully have been getting all our mail (not that this information helps you much, I know)

The infopass appt should help, or you might try calling the number on your approval letter.. (800) 375-5283.. to let them know your card hasn't arrived.

Also, I know this system is unreliable, but are you signed up for email case updates at the USCIS website?

But, dude... you moved to Omaha from Jamaica. It's really cold here, you know? :D

You can do it online at USCIS Infopass after entering your zip code and selecting the field office - 1) need info. on a case already filed, and 2) Case services follow up appointment (even though it hasn't been 45 days). Keep clicking continue, enter your name, address, eceipt number, A number, etc., then choose the date. We had to do this twice because Vika's green card was never issued.

I would take the advice of the person who gave you the number. Don't get upset. You've come too far.... take some deep breaths and find out whats what! good luck, keep us posted :)
