Just because you have a cupboard and refrigerator full of food doesn't mean you have indulge yourself. That's the real problem with any device...overindulgence, not availability. Cutting off your TV service is like hiding the bottle from the alcoholic.

Do you get the newspaper?

no newspaper for me. i read the web... basically i can tune into what i want instead of it being shoved in my face.

i hate TV news (all of it) and i hate loud commercials so i dumped the TV. i don't watch any sports so that helped me dump TV too.

There has not been a TV in this house for almost 6 years, haven't missed it yet. Also no land line telephone since then either. I gave both uop when I went to Ukraine, never had a need for them there and decided I could live without. We get all the news we need from radio and internet and watch films online or rent DVDs. There really isn't any live TV worth watching.

I was hospitalized in early December and had a TV on the room. First time I had looked at TV in 6 years and immediately I was was reminded why I did not have it anymore. 150 channels and nothing on!

We have a friend who's never owned a TV, nor does he have Internet. He falls into the single, christian, left wing, crunchy granola set of people. When he wants access to a computer he goes to the library. He's the most active person I know, going to meetings with various organizations, involved in church, always putting in that extra effort to keep in touch with friends and family etc.

Personally I couldn't go without a TV and Internet, especially since I work from home so the TV is on all day  but I do think he fills up his time with more important things than I do and I kinda him for it. He's definitely one of the best people I know.

I have 2 tv's and I don't watch them. TV makes me nervous.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I found that I could always find something to watch in the UK with just 5 channels, than out here with over a hundred.

Mainly use the TV for watching DVDs.

Sounds like a good reason to move back Gene. Somehow I have found plenty to do in TWO countries without TV, but then,I am a clever kind of guy.

 Um...

Why do you have two TVs you never watch? Wouldn't just ONE TV you never watch be sufficient? Silly me, I have NO TVs because I never watch them. Maybe I would watch TV less if I had a couple TVs around the house to ignore.

I had no TV for the last couple of years that I was living in Israel.

After I moved back to the US, I 'indulged' myself with a 52" flatscreen and UVerse for my cable/Internet package.

I don't watch it too much, mostly the news (Newshour, and Sunday shows), movies, and FOOTBALL!!

That's the best reason I have for keeping it -- watching NFL games in HD big screen simply does not compare to watching it online or on a smaller screen.

Even watching the pitiful Bears? That muse be so painful in HD.

Who needs TV when you got internet?

Agreed. I like television but haven't watched in for a long time. In fact the last thing I watched at home was the presidential debates between Barack Obama and John McCain. I like the internet. I find TV is limited to whatever is on and I choose out of a menu of things but with the internet I go to it and can be offered everything limited only by my interest and imagination. TV doesn't do that.

Without internet I'd feel lost but I don't miss TV, oddly enough.
