White House orders Justice Department to look for other places to hold 9/11 terror trial

White House officials have told the Justice Department to consider other venues for the 9/11 terror trial that was to be held in lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned.

The decision came after Mayor Bloomberg and other politicians across the state railed against President Obama's plan to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in Manhattan Federal Court.

Attorney General Eric Holder now has to think of other places where the trial could take place, officials said.

It was not immediately clear if the reassessment means the trial will definitely be moved out of the city.

I say hold it at the White House since they want so bad to treat them like common criminals. No other neighborhood should else have to deal with such a stupid decision.

Perhaps they should hold the trial at the home of one of our esteemed VJ members who doesn't know where the outrage is.

This is a great point. Not that I disagree with moving it, necessarily. But if Obama really wants to treat him like any other common criminal, then it's really hypocritical to only go half way and still do some things by fiat.

I'm not a legal expert and don't play one on TV, but my understanding is that if you want to treat him like a common criminal, he has to appear in Manhattan at least once in order to arrange the change of venue.

Kind of interesting that after years of criticizing the Bush administration, a year after taking office Obama hasn't closed Gitmo and can't actually figure out how to try terrorists like common criminals in a way that is actually reasonable.
