Well considering the US has zero blue-collar visas, I find it hard to believe they were sponsored. Not to mention, numerous South American nations are no longer eligible for participation in the lottery visa. Over the past 10 years, school districts have had a massive influx of ESOL Hispanic students. Yet, except marriage based visas, there is no such visa available for the uneducated, unskilled and non-English speaking folk to use. Certainly no visa for the 15,000,000 million increase. The process is quite simple, get you azz to the US at any costs and then have you child there. Not only will they receive a foot into America but they will also access taxpayer funded education and receive a range of benefits in various states; including foodstamps and reduced rent.

Lets also not forget that the US already had an amnesty that let in millions before.

That's not 100% true. My uncle owns a restaurant, hired a man from Ecuador as a cook in the kitchen (here legally with GC), he was the best cook he ever hired so he was very very happy. When he opened another restaurant, his cook recommended two of his brothers and my uncle sponsored both of them to come to the US to work for him. They were what you would call 'unskilled' workers (no professional degree) but not in my opinion because they can cook their azzes off!!

Well yes and no, I have never guessed wrong when it comes to determining where someone is born, if they are first generation or born overseas. I have traveled to enough countries to realize that people definitely look (particularly act) diffidently, therefore, you can determine who is from where.

I agree. It is fairly easy to tell who is born here and who isn't when you interact with them. I feel it's unfair, however, to stereotype based on appearance. My husband's an immigrant but is here legally - but yet has had various comments made about his legality in the US :blink: simply because he's hispanic. It's not justifiable no matter which way you look at it.

It's also not justifiable that E-Verify is not mandatory and the law of the land when the system has been up and running for years. Then the issue "appearances" would be moot. So...why isn't E-Verify mandatory with 10%+ official unemployment (17%+ underemployment)? Ask Obama, Pelosi, and Reid!

no matter what the law says, people will be ignorant and racist I suppose.

The constitution needs to be change to at least one parent has to be a U.S. citizen before a child born here can automatically become a U.S. citizen.

Here, here, I second that motion.

IN fact, I am quite uncertain the 14th amendment ever meant (in this respect) how it is being used.

in part it reads;

<<All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.>>

This was passed right after the civil war to protect Blacks from the abuse of any claim that they are not real citizens, were is the logic that it extended to foreigners breaking into the country.

If it was a blanket grant of citizenship to anyone born here why was the pesky part AND SUBJECT TO THE JURISDICTION even in there?

Trying to think of another instance where any other Amendment rewards a criminal act????

If you don't want the parents 'rewarded for a criminal act' simply disallow the extension of immi benefits based on a child who was born when they were illegally present in the US. The fact is, most of these children are born and raised in the US and will grow up to be Americans and not Venezuelans.

What about the long-term implications of having a large number of non-citizens who know life in no country other than this one?

It sounds to me like getting rid of citizenship-by-birth for illegals would work well only after we've licked our basic border and workplace enforcement problems. That way, you don't end up with huge numbers of these kids being born here without any right to citizenship.

I guess India isn't so englighten on that as America. If my kid was born on Indian soil, she automatically wouldn't be Indian. That's true for most countries.

Abolition of jus soli

It sounds to me like getting rid of citizenship-by-birth for illegals would work well only after we've licked our basic border and workplace enforcement problems. That way, you don't end up with huge numbers of these kids being born here without any right to citizenship.

Well perhaps you might agree, no law or system is going to work as long as people can waltz in here and start their life with little or no effort.

As long as people can work, take car loans, house loans and collect social welfare payments, there is nothing anyone could do to stop them from coming... and if I were them and it was so easy, I would come too.

In fact, if I knew of a European country in which I could make 5 times what I make now and I could live there as illegals do her, I would do it!

But make no mistake, I would still be American and I would be there for the money not to embrace any silly sense of Swedish nationalism.

And thats why I am not surprised at those who come here and do the same.

The laws are pretty much irrelevant in India. Birth certificates can be typed up at home and then, for a price, certified by local authorities. It's not at all like here.

No European country allows that. Canada is the only other wealthy country that has the same policy as the U.S.

Makes me want have my wife pop out the kid in Canada and scream and yell if I have to pay for it. It would interesting if a massive number of Americans pulled that stunt in Canada. I can see the border guards turning pregnant American women away.
