Of course, I'm super-hip and on the cutting edge of all things super-hip, and I'm only going to assist my friend Steve with operation of his constructed-from-scratch Dalek (pic from last year's event--Steve's on the right; not sure who the gal is):

Someone at the convention devoted a whole Web page to Steve's Dalek: http://www.boston-baden.com/hazel/Pix/A/stevesdalek.htm

Please PM me if you're going and perhaps we can meet up for beer. Apparently there's a fair amount of drinking (yay!).

I won't be at Gallifrey but you should meet up with the LA UK VJ contingent (what's left of us now that she-who-must-not-be-named-on-VJ [aka devilette has moved). :star:

It would be great to meet up w/ some fellow VJ folks, although I'm not sure we'll have time outside the convention. We'll only be there for the weekend (driving out from Phoenix) and head back Sunday. Maybe we can arrange a meet-up another time? Also, does anyone go to Palm Springs? I really like it. It's only a four-hour drive from here. I can't believe I've lived in Phoenix all these years and only became familiar with it about 18 months ago--we spent the night there on the way back from a road trip up to SF. I imagined it being all old rich people and asswipe golfers, but I was pleasantly surprised. And the aerial tramway is awesome. Plus, I like the outlets nearby (on I-10) and, of course, the fantastic giant fans. :star:

I have gone out that way about 4 or 5 times to visit Jeraly (who is no longer on VJ) -- it's about 2.5 hours from LA. PS can be fun but man! That heat! Last time I went we went up the aerial tramway and loved how beautiful it was up there -- beautiful and about 20 degrees cooler than down the mountain.

Oh yeah...I hadn't really thought about the heat because Phoenix is an inferno too. We went up the aerial tramway in late September. I was exited to wear a jacket! Wow! A jacket!

Palm Springs is not too bad for heat this time of year!

Lots of old people, but lots of fabulous gays as well, which makes for an interesting range of shops on the main strip.

Restaurant I really love:

We'll have to check it out. I know there are lots of nice restaurants there, but we always seem to end up having pizza and beer. Which of course is its own treat, but dammit, I'm a modern gal w/ sophisticated tastes! B)

They have Belgian beer there, so you can have beer and be fancy at the same time B)

Indeed! An excellent plan. I love Belgian beer. In fact, here I am about to partake (Bruges, 2007):

I'm not sure why I'm looking so alarmed...

Hey -- I'm part Belgian-American! (One of my great-grandmothers was from Belgium.) I have apparently inherited my love for strong beer, moules et frites and, uh, mayo from her.

Man, when I am back in London I am so going to the Dovetail Bar in Clerkenwell for some beer and frites. Nom!
