Hi All,

I have a question for any VJ members going through the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia. Johanna my fiancée has her interview on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 7:00am. If she gets approved, she can come back on Monday, March 6, 2006 at 4:00pm to pick-up her passport and visa. Is there a courier service that would deliver the passport and visa? How long does it take and what is the cost?

Johanna lives in Armenia and as of right now I will not be able to attend the interview. She is not comfortable being alone or without family/friends for close to a week in Bogotá and I am planning on buying the airline ticket for Thursday, March 9, 2006.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Peter Miami

Hi Pete its me again, I don't know about a courier service I thought they had done away with that. Patricia feels the same way as Johanna does, and I'm also a little concerned about her spending a week in Bogota by herself but there is nothing we can do about it, just try to reassure Johanna that everything will be fine like I have been doing with Patricia.

Keep in touch!

hello,

If you are approved your fiancee will receive her visa in about 7 to 10 days, closer to 7days. After you are approved you are sent with a slip of paper to Domesa, this is a courier service that will deliver the visa to your fiancee's house. You can pay more to have it delivered in Bogota, maybe about three days. As far as picking it up at the embassy in a few days, that I don't think so.

I do believe the 3/10/2006 is a bit presumptuous. You might wait until your fiancee has her visa. It is alot cheaper for her to buy her ticket there in colombia. It has to be round trip. they will not sell you a one way ticket out of colombia. Like my fiancee from colombia, we got married and she never used the return portion of her ticket.

Me and my fiancee got approved on July 7, 2005. It was the best day of my life. Well now she is my wife.

As far as a place to stay. My wife had relatives in bogota so it was no problem.

One suggestion I have is to log on to: colombia, happy but poor, there you will get very good information regarding good hotels close to the embassy

Isn't this the way it used to be, I am under the impression that if you get the visa you have to go back the next day to pick it up? maybe I'm wrong (HOPE NOT). Let me know!

The problem is Johanna has the interview on Friday, March 3 and she can not pick it up until Monday. This means she will be in Bogotá from Tuesday, February 28 to Monday, March 6. Seven days she will be there alone with no family or friends and I can not go because of work. Hopefully there still is a courier service and that it could delivery passport and visa quickly. I do not want to use that option but the other one is that Johanna will be in Bogotá a week alone.

Thanks,

Peter Miami

I know how you feel Peter, Patricia should be arriving in Bogota as I write this and she will have to stay there alone until next Tuesday the 28th. If everything goes well, I could not attend either because of work, just keep praying that everything will be alright.

Later!

Hey Guys

Hopefully my wife will soon receive her appoitment date in March.

Found the following at the US Embassy Web Site in Bogota:

Resident Visa Delivery Beginning August 1st

Versión en español

As of August 1, 2005, the Immigrant Visa Unit will no longer be using the DOMESA courier service for visa delivery.

Once a visa is approved, the beneficiary must return to the Consular Section, on the next business day at 4:00PM to pick up the visa personally. The benefiary may assign a representative to pick up the visa with a notarized letter of authorization.

Bogota, D.C.
