I don't even know why I am getting involved. But I thought sarcasm of this kind of stuff depends on the person it's coming from. Someone who has a known history of being insulting towards Islam, Middle Eastern people, etc can use sarcasm as an excuse to say such things? Ok, sure.

I didn't see the original thread, nor do I think I want to. I understand sarcasm, satire, dark irony, whatever, but this doesn't seem to have the same ring behind as A Modest Proposal, for example. Especially on a board with a high number of Islamic members. Is the meaning behind this 'satire' to say the opposite? Or is it just an excuse to insult Islam while pretending to be super intelligent? I'm confused.

The meaning behind the satire is what generally makes something satirical. Sarcasm -- especially 'dark sarcasm' is really at the heart intended to be bitter and caustic and not offer any solution. Satire is generally attacking or bringing to light a social or political issue the originator wants people to consider seriously.
