My husband and his family all put bread in the fridge, but we never did in Canada. I guess its because we'd normally go through a loaf so fast the issue of spoiling rarely came up. I agree with you Carla, after putting bread in the fridge it never tastes the same. It also loses that fresh squishyness to it, which is really important for good PB&J sandwiches!

I keep most of that stuff in the fridge. I just find that condiments taste better when they're cold.

Leaving thins in the can seems gross! Won't they taste like can if you leave them in there?

I've always put soy sauce in the fridge, but if you remember, I sometimes screw up, and put something in the cupboard instead of the fridge. Well, I did that for soy sauce. I don't know whether it was because it was "lite" soy sauce or what, but the next time I got it out, it had this fermented smell and taste to it. Gene liked the taste, I totally loathed it. Smelled like a friggin brew! Anyway, this is something I rarely if ever forget to put in the fridge now. ;)

As with the bread issue, yes Huggles, I agree, when younger, we'd always go through bread so fast that it didn't need to be refrigerated. With just the two of us now I freeze it, after taking 1/2 out for the counter. Unless you're counting pennies, which we're not, I'd rather throw out some moldy bread than have to have my bread refrigerated. That's just me though...

That's what I do, Carla. We eat so very little bread that I keep it frozen and take out a slice as I need it.

And it tastes different than refridgerated? :blink:

Montreal Interviewer: "What do you have in common with each other?"

Peachey: "We're REALLY weird."

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

<back to interview>

Me: "Yes, yes I do."

I don't notice my bread tasting differently if I keep it in the fridge.

We keep ours in the fridge so that it lasts longer. I find it gets mouldy in NYC a lot faster than Toronto... I wodner if it's a climate thing... it's not that different, but who knows.

In Canada, we used to keep our bread in the freezer most of the time because we didn't eat sliced bread often. We usually bought fresh italian bread and pretty much finished it off before it even had time to get even slightly stale.

Cold bread is just not good. I keep mine inside my microwave. It keeps it much fresher longer then just being left out on the counter. Plus its one last thing my cats can get into. :luv:
