Not now.

However, the movement to HD video, audio, high speed internet will make 24 GB used up very quickly!

If editing a 1 hour 1080p content from a camcorder, the more memory the better. Especially if you're recording 60GB of 1080p worth of video. Yes, the OS can use paging schemes as to not use all the memory so there's a memory overflow error, but, it does help if you have 24 GB of memory.

But, you won't use it now. Bill Gates in the 70s said, who needs more than 640k of memory. Took a decade. Then, in the 90s with FPM and EDO memory with 128 MB. Took 5 more years to get to 1 GB DDR....Then 2 years to DDR2 with 4 Gigs.....on and on....soon! The end of the world is near!

While memory is important, editing 1080p video (and even playing it) also takes a some serious CPU cycles.
