As always, I'll well ahead of myself but that truly is how I roll so no sense fighting it lol....that said, I'm wondering about something. I called the travel clinic today to discuss getting my Tdap - I've now had the second dose of MMR (1st as a child). I know I've had the chicken pox as a child but will likely require titres /blood work or maybe I'll just get the vaccination again.

The question is around the Tdap. I'm advised by the travel clinic that in order for me to get this shot, I'm to make an appointment with their doctor or the nurse practitioner and have a consult - there is a cost naturally ($40) then the cost of the Tdap of $45. If I don't do this ahead of time I can probably be seen by the travel clinic on the coast after the Woking appointment. But I would prefer to have things done sooner than later.

So have others experienced this ie doctor appointment by the travel clinics and the consultation for the immunication? I may also explore my own physician for the shots.

I'm just wondering if others have done it this way or what the experience has been. This is, of course, above and beyond the Woking medical examination costs etc. I was initially told by the public health nurse that gave me the MMR that wouldn't have to pay for this shot and I would only have to make an appointment for the Tdap without anything attached ie travel clinic doctor consultation but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Comments?

Thanks...

Well...I personally went to my doctor, who is also a personal aquaintance..and explained all the shots and steps I needed...he wrote the prescription for the Tdap and then I brought It back to him and he gave me the injection.....cost me 38.00 for the prescription

I made sure that he wrote out on his prescription pad the date of the injection and that he administered it so I had proof for the medical..all was fine!

How interesting. If I remember correctly, I didn't need a consult with a doctor ahead of time. I went into the local travel clinic and said I needed a Tdap and they made an appointment for me. I did, however get a call from the nurse there and explained what exactly it was that I needed, as I really didn't need updates until this year. ( gasp...better find out where to get them!) So I made the appointment for actual "travel" immunizations that ARE NOT covered by medical. It was about $40, and no problem to get.

Is there only one travel clinic near where you live? Oh, and just get the blood work to show you've had chicken pox. You only need a requisition from your dr. for that. Too easy, and thankfully THAT one is covered!!

quick edit here. I'm originally from Vancouver Island and only had to go to the Island Health clinic.

When I was getting my immunizations I bought in my immunization record and the doctor said I was due for a TDap and administered it right away. It was at a local walk-in clinic and I didn't have to pay anything.

Good luck

It would have taken me over a month to get into see my family doctor and no guarantee that he would have been able to give me the shot in the office right then and there without having to get a prescription first. I went to the local travel clinic and got my Tdap there for $85.... Lovely SK healthcare huh?

If you know you've had the chicken pox as a kid, I wouldn't have the vaccine. It's 2 shots that need to be taken 4-8 weeks apart & quite costly.

I think an oral declaration is good enough(anoyone want to verify this?)...or if you want to be super safe, get the titre.

I just went to the travel clinic and had the Tdap done, no consultation required. It was $77. And my insurance covered the cost of it, so I would definitely suggest attempting to claim it if you have prescription coverage through your employer. It is considered a travel vaccine and therefore covered :D

i was missing some updated vaccines in my yellow booklet, mmr and the td. dr. seiden gave mea paper saying i needed a mmr booster now and a td booster now. went to the walk in clinic in windsor and go them both for free. a shot in each arm. my left was a bit sore for a day or two but easy peasy and free. they filled out my yellow vaccine booklet and i had to fax that back to the to office. i'm just waiting for them to call me back to say it's all good and that they sent out my medical results.

also the oral declaration of chicken pox was fine..i actually have some scars from it as i got pox when i was like 8 and i remember it being hell LOL. that pink stuff never worked that mom used to dab on me.
