The AR-11 is for change of address.

As for the rest, your question makes no sense. Please explain WHAT you asked him and what he told you (the bolded sections are not complete sentences).

Okay, that makes more sense.

Have you moved since filing? If not then the AR-11 isn't needed. Her alien number should be readable on her visa, unless she's been doing something strange with it. I suspect he suggested the AR-11 to "check" that your address was correct (if you haven't moved that is)

otherwise, it should be listed on her NOA somewhere. It starts with A and is 8 digits (9 including the first 0). Check her other paperwork to see if you can find the A number and then call again with that info and they should be able to help you. Didn't you keep a copy of her paperwork that you submitted? Surely you had to fill it in somewhere...

oh well we haven't moved since we applied and that doesn;t make any sense for them to ask my address when they allready have it. he asked for the number which was written on my passport stamp. i don't think i have did anything strange with my papers or my visa stamp or anything i m sorry but that was offensive. main thing i dont understand is why can't they just tell ur status when u give them ur case number or passport number. we gave them my passport number, my full name, my case number, our address, we tried to tell them the number which was written on my stamp by officer and it was barely readable. so my question is do u think we should send everything what they asked for or we should call them again and ask them for AR-11? hopefully that explains everything here..

I didn't mean to be offensive because the K1 visa HAS the number written on it. It's not on a stamp. That's what i meant. That visa seemed pretty sturdy. Double-check her visa. There's a part that says "annotation" and then an A number. Perhaps that person is just stupid.. that's what I'm going with... Maybe the stamp number is kinda like taking a ticket from a ticket machine so he can find out how many until you... but honestly, I would call again, I think that person didn't know what they were doing.

Here's a thread asking how long it takes: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=192704 but the example stamp is wrong. Here's a newer thread showing the stamp: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=181547 in both cases though the A# was written down. Still check your passport or the NOA documents. Here's an example of a K1 one: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albums/...F-NOAs/NOA2.jpg it points to the A number.

This post here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=3267625 also explains where on the CR-1 visa the A number is (I only know on the k1, sorry).

we havent gotten an noa since we arrived. the a number is readable except the last letter which looks like a backwards r. but i guess its supposed to be a number. i cant tell which number it is though. he told me to fill in the ar 11 and send a photocopy of her stamp page on her passport. more idiots to deal with. hopefully we can talk to someone who actually knows how to do his job next time.

I would ask a few friends to "guess" what they think it says. If you can tell most of the numbers that could help. But I'm thinking there HAS to be another way to search for people (like with last name like you said) and the person you spoke to just might be an idiot. *fingers crossed* you have more luck this time

I just clicked through the process, and there is an option for "You are a new Permanent Resident and have not yet received your Permanent Resident Card"
