Hello all,

I am starting to panic a little because I assumed my Canadian fiance would have her K1 Visa by April and no later than May, but I am now reading about the wait times for the consulate interview. She lives in Edmonton, Alberta, so she will be going to the Vancouver consulate for the interview, correct? I have been reading horrible things for the waiting time for Montreal and cannot find much information about the Vancouver office. I received the NOA1 on 11/2/09, and the NOA2 should be coming any day now. What is the typical wait time for interview to occur after the case is forwarded from NVC?

Through my ignorance thinking this would happen faster than I now realize, we have already scheduled our wedding arrangements for June 5

Any information about the length of the process from the NOA2 would be helpful. Thanks!

If you fill in your timeline, the computer will give you a potential range of dates for your NOA2 based on your NOA1. Click on the Immigration Timelines, then under "timeline functions" click on "Add/edit my entry". That would be a useful first step for you and help out people who may be able to help you.

Hi there!

I have my interview with the Vancouver consulate on Thursday so I'll tell you my experience, and you can also see from my timeline. After we received the NOA2 I called the Department of State about a week later and was given our case number ... at this point, I e-mailed Vancouver and asked them if they had received our petition. They said they did and that packet 3 was mailed to me. Packet 3 isn't actually mailed, it's a .pdf file that you can view online ... so, I found that, assembled everything and sent the checklist by fax to Vancouver. 2 days later I e-mailed them to confirm they had received it they said they had and that I had been assigned an interview. My interview was scheduled about 5 weeks after the consulate received packet 3 -- I got the first date I asked for. Long story short, Vancouver is not near as busy as Montreal and they respond to e-mails very quickly -- 1 or 2 day turn around at most. If you guys are on top of things I definitely can't see why you wouldn't have the visa by April or May.

Familiarize yourself with this page:

There is A LOT of helpful info on there. And of course everyone here on the Canada forum is super helpful too :D

Good luck!

I got my interview date in Vancouver about 2 months after my packet three information was sent. I sent my information to the consulate on November 19 and got an interview on January 13, 2010 for my K3. I did request to have it on a Wednesday, the same day as my medical. I am not sure if requesting to have a Wednesday interview makes your weight longer or not, but I suspect it may.

S.

I love being a Canadian.

thank you so much for the information!!! your post was extremely helpful. i plan to definately have everything ready for packet 3 and send immediately after the Vancouver office receives our petition. I will make sure to stay on top of it. It sounds like the Vancouver is a much friendlier office than Montreal. Thanks again, it is very much appreciated!

They are both FRIENDLY offices!! One is just busier than the other

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hey just so you know there is a slight delay in Vancouver due to some unknown event happening there next month... its some new fangled thing called the Olympics... :P

I sent my info in 2 weeks ago and I've been given an interview date of March 9th. It most likely would have been sooner but I really didn't want to deal with all those people coming for the Olympics so I'm fine with that date. The consulate is very good at replying to emails! Take a look at my timeline for more info!

Yes, that's true, and so saying this, everyone should also check to see if medicals will be done around this time as well. I don't know if anyone would want to be in that general area unless they have to. However, it might be advantageous to get it done if you live fairly close so that you're not running around at the last minute.
