I find it strange that people take such moral superiority in their car's country of origin. If you like American. Like American. If you like an import. Like your import. They really are apples to oranges, and no one is better than the other. It all depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle.

I personally like the styling and design of American automobiles. Now if someone put an Aston Martin AMV10 in my garage, I'd cruise. But, if they put a Ford 350 in there too, I'd drive that one first.

Cat,

With all due respect, You are late to the debate.....there are underlying issues at the core of this thread........

I expected that you would chime in anyway... :P ..I apologize if I insulted you....

:P

I am the only haole working at the unemployment office. I'm insulted all day long, it takes more than pointing out that I missed the point of something to insult me.

I am good with that..Acura TLS here, although the Aston Martin is very appealing...

The Ford Taurus has such weak ball joints. It breaks often in New England. Heck, even the Ford Minivan. We had two. Both had problems with the ball joints.

Are you sure it was the joints, not the balls themselves?

Dell - as American as Apple Pie!

I purchased a Dell 8 months ago(the first computer I personally bought). I'll never buy a Dell again. Within months of buying the computer, I've had problems with the Bluetooth card, the wireless card, the built in webcam, the printer (that I purchased with the computer also from Dell), and the DVD drive. It seems the corresponding drivers either uninstall themselves or become corrupted. The wireless mouse is now on the fritz after 6 months (I replaced the battery but the mouse detects multiple rapid clicks no matter how firmly or softly I press the button). The USB drives only work when they want to. I purchased a computer with 4 USB drives for a reason, but it seems that only 2 of them will work at a time. The computer is under warranty, so the tech support people sort of help me. But I don't expect to have to spend several hours a week on the phone with tech support people in order for my computer to work.

And tech support, sales support, and everything else that I can call from this apple pie comes with an Indian Accent. I don't know where Dell manufacturing is located, but if it's in America, I think it's a shame that quality is as low as it is.

When it comes to cars, it's all names anyways. Most Toyotas sold in the US are manufactured in the US. The things that are outsourced are outsourced based on cost and it doesn't really matter which company we are talking about. The difference between a Toyota and a Ford is the nationality of the executives. To me that's all water over the dam. I drive a Toyota and haven't had to make any repairs yet. It's only 5 years old, so maybe it's to soon to tell, but so far, so good.

Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Nissan, all hired American engineers to show them how to build a decent car in the late 70's and early 80's. Maybe they should go back to that, but don't feel we have any decent engineers left, or maybe just rusty from flipping burgers or passing out shopping carts. Toyota like anyone else is outsoucing to China. Hey, it's all about making money as is Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

Blame the Chinese. Throttle control dates back to the very first vehicles developed in the 19th century like a 113 years ago. How can that be screwed up? Can with idiots or more likely with marketing wanting to make a few more cents. God, the things we could have done to improve reliability if we could only spend a penny here or there.

Then we have the good old EPA forcing the automakers to burn that middle east ####### clean, when in fact they should have been picking on the oil companies to develop a clean burning fuel. You are paying big bucks for that minor decision with a whole bunch of added ####### that makes your maintenance cost a nightmare.

If you compare any household appliance between today's and 60 prices, only doubled, but cars with the same automation and robotics is costing you ten times as much.

Sure a lot of more convenience items added that make driving positively boring coupled with reduced speed limits. But these convenience items can cost you a second home mortgage if they fail. Have to admit getting carried away in my kitchen with all the latest gadgets. But replaced most of it with a knife and spoon and still get the job done quicker than spending hours on cleaning and maintaining this #######, plus trying to find a place to store it. Your car is the same way. Just a bunch of ####### and a lot of you even brag about having it.
