It's their second recall in less than 2 years.

Last year, Consumer Reports said Toyota was "showing cracks in its armor" and did

not recommend two of its most important US-built models - Camry V6 and Tundra

V8 4WD - because of quality concerns.

The Camry remains the number two vehicle sold in the US. Not likely to change, unless serious and continuing issues emerge.

Isn't it funny that if this was an American brand with two major recalls the cars would be considered junk by most on this board but if it a Toyota or Honda it doesn't even raise an eyebrow?

GM has a much longer dismal record. It's all about reputations...which can change, but it takes time. If Toyota continues this trend, watch their market share drop. Car buyers these days are savvy enough to know quality and will buy cars that are higher quality...generally speaking.

That is true Steven, but there is a large mentality that thinks Japanese=better, American=####### and they never explore the facts.

In the motherboards, if you don't have the solid Japanese Capicitors, you don't have a good motherboard. For the PC cases, if you don't have Japanese Steal, then you don't have a good case.

Hyundai had a similar problem of a bad reputation, but they've slowly rebuilt their reputation up. GM never has been able to shake the reputation of building cars that only last a few years. That's not a knock on the autoworkers. That's a reflection of the executives who thought that kind of business model would succeed in such a competitive market. Shame on them.

Have no idea. Know that most discoveries came from Germany.

But, in terms of precision the Japs are very good at it. I think it goes into the mentality that each children in Japan are raised with high expectations, and honor. Therefore, it produces laborers that suffers from Obsessively Compulsive Precisionists.

I find the whole GM/American car thing quite ironic. I had a Chevy K-Blazer that had 192,000 miles on it with no major repairs, a Ford F-250 with 160,000, numerous Ford/GM work vehicles etc. that were fantastic vehicles.

The Ford Taurus had pretty decent track record as recall. But cars like the Chevy Citation.... and their new Aveo.....sheep droppings.

You got lucky there Spooky....I could go on about repairs to my Ford's (Thunderbird x 2, Bronco, F-150 and Ranger).
