But are these graffiti? Or are they murals done with the permission of the owners of the buildings? And is the intent to mark territory like pissing dogs or create something beautiful for others to enjoy? The bottom one even includes a website.

Good point and I agree, there's a big difference between tagging territory and pieces like the ones above. I don't condone graffiti in any way and I thought most of the stuff I've seen on overpasses and on markings on street signs is just infantile and stupid.
