I actually like the one on the right but I am basing my opinion on what looks better to me. The left painting looked depressing, the right clearer and brighter. From a technical, 'what piece took more painting skills' standpoint apparently the one on the left is much better.

The one on the left is more depressing. It's more expressive. The other one looks like Kinkade started taking Prozac.

True, that's is an equally ignorant definition of art. Now you've got that out the way...it's perfectly ok for you not to like whatever it is you do not like and to like whatever it is you do want to like. I called you a proletarian for wishing that which you do not like to be destroyed because in your sorry opinion it's not art and suggested that you do not in fact understand what art is because you do not consider Picasso art, but #######. So far you have produced nothing to contradict these opinions, but, please, carry on trying.

Get off yourself seriously. You're too busy making out with yourself on these boards to actually give anything interesting to them.

And you're the "common man" are you Joe? Perhaps your problem is not that I think I'm better but because deep down you feel inferior for some reason that's specific to you.

It would explain your ever present hostility.

That goes for you too.

I'm pretty sure if we started a poll - you'd come out the more hostile one with the votes. Not that I care.

He's really offended that you'd talk about his ears that way.

And that's not a childish comment?

I'm not an enormous Picasso fan, though I think Guernica is pretty fabulous, but more for the inspiration for the painting. When we go to the SAM here I am always appalled at what is often considered art, but to each his own.

No, its not childish. Its a joke about how offended the leader of the free world was when a journalist also joked about his ears. I didn't bring it up. Adults are allowed to joke around without risk of being considered childish. It is when one is serious about the idiotic things they are saying, such as Cleo and Pike and their superiority to everyone, that the sad truth of their small minds comes to fruition.

The difference is the "i'm better than you" childish attitude.

Anyone actually an art expert in this thread? I'm not. Anyway...I don't really like most of Picasso's work, for looking at.

It's not my style. Not saying he wasn't an artist, I just don't like the way a lot of it looks to me.

Like others have said, I like impressionism. I don't really want it hanging all over my house though. I was really into Starry Night 10 years ago when it got onto everything like mouse pads and posters, loved it. Then I got sick of it. These days I like a lot of indie artists and I just want things that I like. I don't care if they are considered true art or if they will ever hang in a museum, I just like them.

One of the knee-jerk tests I use to determine whether something is ART or not is.... would it be possible for me to do it?

Sadly, art like so many other words has lost a true definition.

Porn is art, empty canvas is art, even huge clothes pens or crank shafts welded together is now considered .....art.

If I can do it or replicate it, it's not art.

How do these "Artists" even stay in business?

Government monies play a sustaining role.

IN my city and most, any public facility to be build must allocate a certain percentage of the overall budget to "art".

Along out new lite-rail line we have these huge discs with square holes in the center, I think they are suppose to represent the old wheel on trains.

At any rate, they are silly (not to mention stupid looking.)

One of the wonderful things about Russia is Art, silly examples of art are very rare but the art museums are full of ....well, art. Even the Metro is in many cases, a work of art, with paintings and mosaics.

Well, to each his own.

How could it not? Joe is here, his mere presence drops the IQ of a thread by 100 pts.

And you are just a little peace maker right?
