Hey all. I've been so MIA lately trying to work on a bunch of other things, and now that it's a week away, it's back to being all I can think about.

I have a question that has come up this week. Our interview is next Friday in Montreal (Yay!!!). My fiance is visiting some friends in the southern US this week and then headed back to our house to wait for his interview. We're going to drive MTL together (lucky for us only a 6 hour drive). Our original plan was that I would take him to his mom's to wait out the week or so until his visa arrives, and I'll head home until we can return with a truck to move him. I thought that was a good plan, BUT my work interfered. I now unexpectedly have to be in the NYC area for most of the week after the interview. So since it's closer to go to NYC from Montreal than it is from home, I'm thinking I'll just drive down from there sometime during the weekend after the interview, which means his mom's house is way out of the way (like 6 hours one way the wrong direction).

SO my question... can he come to NYC with me instead of going to his mom's? I can put him on a flight, train, or even bus and have her pick him up, but if he can come with me, it'd be nice to have the company in NYC. I know they take his passport at the interview, but we both have NEXUS cards (which all of you should invest in - best $100 we ever spent), so he doesn't need his passport to get across the border. And he wouldn't be crossing with any ill intent - he would return to Canada after we return from NYC and wait for his packet to arrive.

But I feel like I'm missing some information that should stop this from being the plan, but I'm not sure what it is.

I don't think it would be wise for him to come to the US while he's waiting on his visa. I'm not sure why, but I get a feeling in my tummy that's all like "noooooooo", lol.

Bleh, sorry, didn't read the part about Nexus cards.

Honestly, I wouldn't - it also gives me a few iffy feelings as to how they would feel about this. But, I would recommend asking this in its own topic here in the Canada forum to see if you couldn't find some better advice.

jmd77, I wouldn't just because your interview is so close. Plus, it honestly depends on the officer you get and the ties you bring with you. Good luck with whatever choice you pick. And see you in the lineup. I plan on being there at 6:45am

Thanks for the opinions. I'm leaning towards playing it safe - come to far not to at this point.

And Bern, 6:45 is close to our plan as well. We booked a hotel that is about 10 blocks down Boulevard Rene-Levesque, so our plan is to leave the hotel at 6:30 and walk to the consulate.

I know this is such a girlie question, but what do people wear to the Consulate? For those of you USC's that have been there already, do you sit and wait or do they let you be present for the interview so long as you're quiet? Sorry if those have been answered - have had limited time today to read for answers to questions that pop into my head.

My hubby (fiance at the time, USC) was present each time I went up to the window, and in the room for the interview itself. We were both asked questions by the consular officer.

We dressed business casual. It was much colder than it is now, so I wore black dress pants and a long purple wool top. Hubby wore black slacks and a nicer sweater. We both wore coats as well, which the CO offered to have us remove for the interview itself.

There were some dressed up like we were and some dressed down in jeans. Guess it's whatever you're more comfortable with.

I am very curious about this as well. My fiance' and I both have Nexus Cards too. Since he doesn't intend to POE until July 1 and his interview is on May 3, is he going to have to stay in Canada because the visa is in his passport even though he could use his NEXUS card to go across the border without showing his passport? Are you planning to ask this question about your fiance' traveling with NEXUS at the interview? I will be very interested to hear the result. I just don't want to mess anything up now that we actually have an interview date and can start making forward plans.

I have heard of people here who crossed the border without activating their K1s before doing their "official K1 POE" -- but that was after they had gotten the actual visa ... not while waiting for it after the interview. (I wonder if it wasnt Arabella... but cant remember precisely now.)
