Hello all,

My wife and I recently got married. We want to bring her 25 yr old unmarried daughter to the US. We have yet to file for my new wife's resd. I want to bring her daughter in as my step daughter. Is this possible and if so how?

Thanks for your time and effort.

She is too old to be adopted by you for immigration purposes. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...000082ca60aRCRD

Your wife can petition for her once she has a green card and then can upgrade the petition when she becomes a citizen. http://www.uscis.gov/USCIS/New%20Structure...Guides/B1en.pdf

Current Visa Bulletin http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bull...letin_4611.html

It will be an 8 year wait for her to get a visa with your wife as an LPR. When your wife becomes a citizen it would shorten the wait.

unfortunatly, you can't petition for her, she had to be under 18 before the marriage took place, she's 25.

Her mom will have to petition for her when she becomes a LPR, and she must remain unmarried, until she gets her GC or her mom becomes a USC and then she can marry.

from what country is she? Mexicans take a very long time, like 18 years, and there are other countries that have a longer wait.

First of all thanks for the replies.....so let me get this straight, the mother can't petition her if she is only a US residence and how many years does it take to become a citizen? They mother and daughter are both from Colombia....

for your wife - 3.5 years (give or take a few months) from the time she first receives the green card, to becoming a citizen.

then, once yer wife is us citizen, is 'normal' immediate family processing times - usually under 12 months.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
