The entire section quoted above by minha_raposa actually refers to pet stores and animal shelters. Nowhere does it regulate how much space dogs and cats must have in private homes, what sorts of bowls they must have, or anything else. I repeat, the section she quoted does not apply to private citizens but only to pet stores and animal shelters.

Many other things on the site she linked to are false. For example, it says that you can be charged with animal cruelty for having your dog off-leash at a dog park. Now, I don't have a dog so I've never been, but I've never seen a dog park that didn't have a fence around it. And the law says your dog must be contained by a fence *or* a leash. So if the dog park is fenced, the dog can be off-leash.

Most of the provisions of the law are also not new. You've always been required to register your pet, keep its vaccinations up-to-date, not let it roam, etc. I've never lived in any city that didn't have laws requiring those things (and I've lived in seven cities in four states), even though very few people follow them.

Frankly, your full of sh*t, and apparently have NOT ready each section of the ordiance. These section are covered under BOTH parts of the ordinance. As for the website, you obviusly did not look for the actual ordinance link that I quoted from. I've been following this BS from the beginning, and apparently, you just got here and suddenly you are an expert on all things Albuquerque.

You need to go back and read the law because if you DID you would know that Pet stores are no longer allowed to sell dogs or cats (as you quoted above)!

You think it's cool and you know so much? Well, I can assure you that if not already, you WILL do something that violates this ordinance that constitutes animal cruelty under the ordinance which can result in probable cause for the government to come into your home.

Sorry, but I don't have time to debate your ignorance or put up with your sarcasm. I've nothing else to add with you. Take care!

The ordinance I read is posted on the City of Albuquerque website on the page which discusses the City Council and says "The final version of the animal ordinance (HEART) as adopted by the Council has been sent to the Mayor for his signature. We have made the document O-05-135 [that's the link I posted] readily available." Are you suggesting that the "final version of ... HEART as adopted by the Council [and] sent to the Mayor for his signature" is not what I should have been reading?

I did, actually, read all 67 pages of it, and the part you quoted is lifted directly from section 9-2-2-4 titled "§ 9-2-2-4 HOUSING AND RESTRAINT STANDARDS FOR MAMMALS AND BIRDS KEPT AT BOARDING KENNELS, GUARD DOG SITES, ANIMAL SHELTERS INCLUDING THE ALBUQUERQUE ANIMAL CARE CENTER (AACC) AND PET STORES (Nonresidential sites).", which regulates animal shelters and other similar sites.

Section 9-2-2-2 (HOUSING AND RESTRAINT STANDARDS FOR MAMMALS AND BIRDS KEPT ON RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY) does say that if you are going to leave your pet in a cage or crate all day, the cage must be at least as large as an animal shelter must use. Frankly, I don't have a problem with that. The section on how animals must be treated does not include any of the other provisions you cited above, so while it's true that part of the animal shelter rules apply to private owners, most do not.

If you can tell me which section of the law regulates what kind of bowls private citizens must use, how many toys animals must have, or how private citizens must play with their pets, I'll be happy to admit my mistake.

It is true that I'm new to Albuquerque, but I've been living here through the last two public debates on the subject including the one that resulted in the law's passage, and I've read all the newspaper articles on it and the entire text of the law itself, and in fact my husband went to the AHSA to register our cats last week and asked for an explanation of the law.

I'm sorry you feel you must resort to name-calling and mud-slinging. I realize this is an issue that is controversial and you and I are on different sides, but I had hoped the discussion could be civil and each of us could come to a complete and correct understanding of the law.

I have a friend that is working in Portland, Oregon. She loves it. She says she does not have to drive far to find a farmer's market, a farm to go pick berries and lavender, to go for a hike, or to go into the city. She told me about her rent (I would be so happy to find housing that cheap here in South Florida). She is a Florida transplant and says the weather is not that bad (it does rain a lot).

I just stumbled on to this post. And wanted to say that Fort Collins CO has to be one of the best places to live. It was even voted best place to live by CNN money http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bp.../PL0827425.html.

This is where I will be relocating in the next 2 months and I lived there for 6 months. It's a dog people town, great weather, everyone is nice and the rockies are near by. There is even an ice cream store that gives free ice cream to dogs on Sundays!! If thats not a dog town... then I don't know what is. :)

I'm foncused: Is the weather not that bad or does it rain a lot? It can't be both.

Hey, it could be that she likes rain, so it's not bad that it rains a lot. I only find the rain bad because most of the people on the freeways freak out and forget how to drive.

Okay. I know you guys are holding out on me. Somewhere there is the perfect town - full of liberals and former hippies - with farmer's markets and community gardens and libraries and a dog park. The housing costs are reasonable, the wages are decent (especially for nurses). Lots of international food. Tolerable weather. Lots of lakes, rivers ... maybe near the ocean? Traffic that won't make you drive off of a bridge. Maybe a big city close by ... but not too close? :innocent:

You've just described the Portland Oregon metro area to a tee.

My sister lives in Portland and loves it and I've been there a few times. Of all the places on the west coast I like Portland the best. It has a small city feel because of all the different neighborhoods. It's the best place for a bicycle. Free downtown public transportation and cheap anywhere else you want to go. My sister doesn't have a car. Full of alternative anything you want. It rains, but summers are warm and not that rainy. Winter rains are usually not constant or heavy. You should like rain, though. It's green and pretty. People are friendly. The ONLY problem I can see with Portland is that jobs are hard to get, but that might not apply if you're a nurse. (I saw a newspaper article there with numbers of people that had applied for different jobs--like over 100 for a bartender job, etc.) I'd move there if it weren't for that.
