If your IV bill is available to be paid, it means your DS3032 has been accepted. Pay it. And wait for it to show up as paid. It took less than 12 hours for my payment to clear.

Sending both packets together saves postage and maybe a false RFE. If your IV bill clears soon after your AOS, some people prefer to send them together. Others send AOS first, then the DS230. Some even send the DS230 first and the AOS later, if they're waiting for tax transcripts. That's about it. :) Bottom line, both packets need to get to NVC. In any order.

Life2live--You can call anytime and give your emails to a NVC operator any time after the case # has been assigned. Be ready with name/date of birth of both petitioner and beneficiary. I'm not sure if they're open today or not--someone said they might be closed because of the horrid weather but you can try and see if you can get through. You will receive your AOS/DS3032 links in about 7 business days after your case # has been assigned.

Life2live--I lived in the U.S. for four years and have a SSN. My W2 was generated from my campus employment. My husband's doing our taxes this weekend.

And Sam--Thanks, I'm more than slightly OCD when it comes to these things. When are you leaving? Good luck with everything!

Estrella--Hey, India is about 10.5 hours time difference from the U.S. so I sleep when everyone else is awake. But don't worry, I'm still dreaming about NVC, VJ and DS230s.

My DS230 packet included:

Cover sheet for Immigrant Visa Bill of $400.

Two (2) Passport Size Photographs of Beneficiary (Beneficiary’s full name, and date of birth are written on back of both).

DS-230 Part 1 completed and signed by beneficiary.

DS-230 Part 2 completed by beneficiary – unsigned, as of yet, per instructions.

Original Marriage certificate

Photocopy of Marriage Certificate

Original Birth Certificate

Photocopy of Birth Certificate

Original Police Clearance Certificate from Local Police Station, Calcutta

Original Police Clearance Certificate from Regional Passport Office, Calcutta

Photocopy of beneficiary’s Indian passport.

sachinky - it looks good..

You can send them the notarized (certified) copies of the documents.

You don't have to send them original documents (worse situation - what if they got lost)

I hope it will not BUT just speaking of devil... :star:

Q - Do we have to send them original? I think they say certified or original...

Deep--Notarized copies are actually NOT the same as certified copies. People often get RFEd for that. Hopefully, they won't lose them. Honestly, I just care about our marriage certificate and my birth certificate. They'd be a pain to get again.

Mike! Where are you? My DS3032 (the one I sent on 02/05) got accepted. That means your must've as well.

Folks--what's Priority Date? I got an NVC email with my case number, category preference and priority date. My priority date is dated before my NOA1. It's confusing.

Deep--Support affidavits are affidavits written in support of your relationship that testify to the legitimacy of your relationship/marriage.

I have two from his parents, five from our college friends, two from my family and two from wedding guests.

Send in ORIGINAL or CERTIFIED copies. NOT notarized copies. What's the roadblock you've hit?

Updating current NVC timelines:

# of business days it takes:

5-9 days for NVC to receive your case and assign a case #.

5-9 days to receive emailed links after giving your email address to an operator.

1-2 days for the AOS bill to show as PAID.

5-9 days for DS3032 to be accepted.

1-2 days for IV bill to be PAID.

7-10 days for case complete after all your documents have been sent in.

I have couple of documents that are notarized and all of documents have 3 stamps

1. Notrary Stamp with Date Stamp

2. Validity Stamp

3. Extra Stamp (says "Valid Outside India")

I am just scared to give them original in mail. What is they lost it? I will be in a ditch. It is taking lot of time and effort to get all other missing documents. I don't want my family to go through it again if NVC lost the original. To get those documents in orginal again..

Q - What is difference between certified and notarized copies? :innocent:

Notarized copies are photocopies of the original which have are stamped by the notary, to signify that it is a true copy.

Certified copies are ones that are given by the ORIGINAL ISSUING ENTITY. So if I wanted to get a certified copy of my birth certificate, I'd have to go to the Calcutta Municipal Corporation and get them to issue a copy of my birth certificate against my original, old one that will essentially look like an original copy. Whereas a notarized copy of my birth certificate would just be a photocopy of my BC that would have a notary's attestation. Hope this makes some sense. I'm not sure it does. :)
