Melody--two PCCs required for India. One from the passport issuing RPO and one from the applicant's current place of residence local police station. And anywhere else that the applicant might have lived in for more than 6 months after the age of 16.

Is it really necessary to have the Police certificate from all places where the spouse resided for more than 6 months since the age of 16. As per the information I have from the Chennai consulate just the Passport certificate and the certificate from the regional office where the spouse currently resides are sufficient. Please see the link. Maybe the requirements are different from Consulate to Consulate too within the same country.

Yes, for within India, those two are sufficient. But if you've resided abroad for more than six months after attaining the age of 16 you'll need PCC from Spain or Dubai as well.

Damn, David--what's taking them so long? Did you call them? Make sure they have the right email addresses.

What's the 1099 and 1040? I'm getting confused now.

I only sent 3 years of IRS Tax Transcripts and 1 year pay stubs and had no problem

I had 2006 tax transcripts. 2007 and 2008 tax returns and W2s.

Ok--So my IV bill was generated and paid yesterday. Now it's even showing as PAID. But I didn't get the email instructing me to pay it yet. Can I send in my DS230 packet with the printed cover sheet or should I wait till the official email comes in?

I have a question.... somewhere i read that my spouse would need a passport clearance certification as well as a police clearance certification.... But I cant find this information again... reading the LingChe guide it doesnt state it in there.... are both certifications needed?

In short,if his passport is less than 6 months old,just the Passport Clearance Certificate will do. If more, he needs both.

Let's clear some of this up for Sachinky and anyone else who might be interested.

If you are working as an employee of a company that withholds your Federal taxes for you, they will provide you with W-2s at the beginning of the year. If you work as a consultant or as a part time employee or even if your employer does not withhold your taxes, they provide you with a 1099 and you are required to pay your taxes when tax filing season arrives. So every individual is most likely to have either or,not both. The 1040 is the form that you use to file your taxes, whether done using a W-2 or a 1099 doesnt matter.

So yes, the NVC will be expecting the 1040 or a tax transcript, which is essentially the same thing, along with either your W-2 or your 1099, whichever you have.

You can send it in with the cover sheet now, no need to wait for email because it could take a couple days for the email. Just time wasted if you wait.

I'm confused between the 1040 and 1099 -- I was looking through the I864 again and it says if you're using tax transcripts, that's fine. If you're using the federal tax returns, then W2s and 1099 must be attached. What the hell are 1099s? Will just the tax return and W2 be enough? People? I'm slightly freaking out.

1099 is similar to a W-2, but it shows payments received, usually tax is not taken out.

There are many 1099 forms on the IRS website, different as to 'type of payments'.

Many independent consultants receive a 1099 form from the entity that PAID them.

Some interest payments, dividend payments, also use 1099 form.

If yer man doesn't have 1099 income, don't sweat it.
