Melody--There is a Passport Application form which you fill out for "miscellaneous purposes." He can pick it up for Rs. 5 or something. I required my passport copy, USC husband's passport copy, my Class X pass certificate, marriage certificate and they made me fill out a form regarding name/address/date of birth/name of spouse. A police inspector will visit the house to check the applicant truly lives there and ask some basic questions. My PS PCC was a typed letter that had my picture on it and stated I have a clear record and have lived from so and so date at my residence and that I'm cleared for immigration along with a couple of stamps and a signature. The RPO PCC was a stamp in the passport stating I'm eligible to US visa purposes and an accompanying letter. I already sent in mine so I don't have a copy to scan it in. Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing the information.

PS PCC - letter and it willl have the picture too... (I did not know it)

RPO PCC - Stamp in the passport that you are eligible for US visa purposes and a letter... hmm... (I did not know it either)

--------------this is why RPO is asking to wait for 7 days after you receive the passport to apply for RPO PCC-----------------

:innocent: ........" I required my passport copy, USC husband's passport copy, my Class X pass certificate, marriage certificate and they made me fill out a form regarding name/address/date of birth/name of spouse"........... :innocent:

I have a question -

1. Do you need all of this to get PS PCC and RPO PCC? :star:

:innocent: Contacting the local PS is actually no use, you need to go to the main branch and the IB clearance comes from the local PS--they're the ones who send an officer to the residence once they receive the file/app from the district headquarters. :innocent:

2. PS PCC - For this, we need to go to SSP (Senior superident of Police) office and then you are talking about IB clearance (Intelligence Bureau)?

All the comments / info are welcome here...

I just want it to more clear before we will goto LOCAL SSP office for PS PCC and RPO office for RPO PCC... Please let us know

Thats his class 10th certificate (Somthing equilvalent to high school certificate)..........Usually its used as a valid ID in India for name verification. I did not have to take it but its good to have it with him just in case because there is no consitency from district office to office in India on how they do things. He should have it at his disposal though so its not a problem.

Ok, this for PCC's from Calcutta and please remember each district has its own requirements. I did this in November so my memory might be a little hazy. I'll try and remember as much as I can.

Ok, so first we went to the local PS near my residence, like I said they were useless. They had no idea what I was talking about. So we went to the SSP district office. They're the ones who obtaining clearance from the Intelligence Bureau. Gave us the run around for a couple of days, then they made me fill out a green looking form and give them a copy of my passport, his US passport, our marriage certificate and a copy of my 10th grade board examination pass certificate. Also attach a cover letter stating why you need this PCC. Then about a week later, a police officer came to our house, asked basic questions, asked for the same things again (photocopies of passport, marriage certificate, pass certificate etc) drank two cups of tea and then left. He said we'd get it the next week. So after more running around, we went and collected the certificate. The wording is bizarre on it so don't get freaked out. The Additional Super made me stick a passport size picture of myself, asked me if there were any court cases pending against me, if I'd ever been arrested, and why I required the PCC. He then stamped and signed it and then I was good to go. Total time it took--3 weeks.

Then next Monday, we applied for the RPO PCC. You need that passport application form for miscellanenous purposes. It might be even available online or you can get it yourself. Fill it up, attach a copy of your passport, they took a photocopy of my U.S. F-1 visa as well. Since I got my passport when I was 10, they said it would take a long time blah blah, since I was a minor at that point and they hadn't done any security checks then. So I added a copy of my local PS PCC, just to be on the safe side and I believe that's the only reason we got it in 7 days. They WILL take your original passport. Like I said, you get a stamp in your passport stating something like "Not rendered ineligible for U.S. immigration purposes." Don't get freaked out at the word ineligible, that's how they roll. They also gave a typed letter, pretty much stating the same thing. "Applicant/Address/DOB/ is issued clearance from the Kolkata RPO."

Just an additional note: For Calcutta, they didn't need anything from USCIS/NVC/Embassy. Just me, my cover letter and our marriage certificate was enough. But please be aware that a lot of places won't issue it unless you show them something from NVC with the case number or the interview date.

Oh, and another thing: You can try and get the RPO PCC from a travel agent office if you don't want to stand in queue for several hours. Takes about Rs. 1500.

We didn't get an automated response either when we emailed our DS3032.

Mrs.Wife -- OMG, that just sucks. I can't believe your FIL would bail out on you at such a crucial time. Can't your husband talk to him? But it looks like he might be able to qualify on his own -- I hope it works out somehow, good luck! This joint sponsor thing is a pain, most people just flip out at hearing "financial responsibility" -- it's not even that big a deal. The problem sometimes is that a joint sponsor on the USC side might not know the intending immigrant that well and don't really trust them/or are willing to take their responsibility, even if they're close to the USC. It's why I asked my joint sponsor to read the ENTIRE I864 document before we even filed the I130 and see if he felt comfortable signing it. Only then did we go ahead. Some of the people we considered asking were shaky about it, they didn't want to take the risk or responsibility and I was afraid that they'd do something like this at the last minute so I asked my naturalized USC cousin. He's been through this process himself, so he didn't really have any issues signing as the joint sponsor.

Hi Sachinky, it's 8:40am here in Brazil and we are waiting to call NVC as soon as they open to see if we are able to qualify as sponsors with our assets.

I still can't believe in my FIL.

He knew he was going to be the co-sponsor. He knows me for 3 years and came down to Brazil for the wedding. Knows my entire family. My mom went to the US on vacation and met them even before we talk about marriage.

He said if he really need to sign it, he would do. But he wants to make sure there is no way around.

I'm just so sad.... even if he signs it now, he hurt my feelings...

What's he thinking? That we might get a divorce and I'll go after him for money?

Hubby tried to explain that is not that big deal, but he doesn't want to force his dad to do anything he doesn't feel comfortable.

Funny that if it was my parents, they would sign anything without even questioning, because they trust me and love him.

We (at least brazilians) are so different in this kind of thing.

Anyway, he'll call NVC and we'll see what we can do.

I'd like not need the FIL anymore if possible, just too disappointed right now.

So if they say we qualify will be great!!!

Although one more thing to drive me crazy for the interview. We never know what the CO will do. I think we may get turned down and asked for a co-sponsor at the interview, even if we pass NVC.

Oh well, didn't sleep much last night. Let me go have some breakfast and wait to call NVC.

Have a great week everyone =)
