Ok, it seems my job doesn't do it's own proof of employment papers, and has a third party company doing the... www.theworknumber.com

Haven't purchased anything from them yet (costs to get your proof of employment and income from this site.). Will this be sufficient for the k-1 visa's proof of employment, since it says about needing to be signed and on a letterhead. Would a W-2 work as well or not? My fiance's interview is late february, so hoping to get this last item done quickly...

I don't get paystubs, but I can log into the company website and print out pretty much a paystub that shows how much money i've made in the year, hourly income, etc. Just hoping I can use anything other then an official letter of proof of employment from this website. Would rather use paystubs/even online ones I can print out, W-2, or whatever.

Hey Morrin, My company also uses that system, have you checked the site for verification of employment? I know I have seen this feature on the site, this may give you the required information! If not, you will have to contact your company's Human Resource Dept for instructions!

Tried using the site, but it seems I have to give the verifier the 'salery key' and then they have to sign up on the webpage and then even pay to verify someones employment...And when I tried to sign up and register as a verifier, it was asking for information I just did not have.

Sorry, I have never used the feature before. I would contact HR Dept. tomorrow, they should be able to supply the document you need. I would give them ample time to contact payroll and request the income information they will need to write the verification of employment letter. I will have to do the same thing soon( hopefully soon ). Anyway, I think that HR or payroll could supply the needed document!

Sad thing is, HR is the one who gave me this website. They specifically told me they don't do proof of employments within the company at all...All done through this website. Grr...So annoying! :-/

Seems some employer's don't want to provide this type of letter for some unexplained reason. What I did when I use to work for a previous employer is did my own letter and explained within the letter the employer refused to do the letter, had it notorized and included paystubs and they never questioned it at the embassy.

Your IRS tax return or better still the IRS tax transcript is key. Paycheck stubs or summaries are next best. Proof letter is last. Dont fret it.

My understanding is the employee doesn't need to purchase anything from TheWorkNumber, you go to the site, put in your employers code and have the site generate a code that you then give to the individual needing the verification in addition to the code you get from your employer. But then I think the verifying individual needs to subscribe to TheWorkNumber. I'm going to send these in as a "Lets see what happens so I can post it on VJ" in addition to my tax returns and pay stubs. Kinda ridiculous though, that the company I work for doesn't do their own letters, because if I had to have one, and the person I needed to give it to doesn't use that site, I'd be completely screwed since they've made it clear that's all they do is use that site.

Two options...

1. Show paystubs

2. Write the letter yourself "John Smith has been employed here since _______ in the position of _________ and is paid a base wage/salary of _____" Take it to your superviosr and ask them to sign it. Avoid the whole HR/theworknumber thing.

Unfortunately, it isn't ridiculous what they do. The world is full of parasitic attorneys that seek out victims (hosts) to bleed for money. Companies would write letters of employment, then something happens and people get laid off and these same people would SUE the company with a lawyer claiming they were Guaranteed a job because of these letters. Companies are encouraged by THEIR parasitic attorneys to do this to protect themselves from YOUR parasitic attorney (or possibility thereof). The main goal of attorneys are to generate fees and keep other attorneys in business along with themselves.

No consulate will check with a website, forget it. It is your job to giftwrap everything and present it to them, they do not go looking for it. Fortunately you do not need an employment letter, recent checkstubs will do fine.

We sent in copies of paystubs and W-2s.

Didn't bother with The Work Number, though I could have. My understanding was that they didn't charge employees. The company pays for the services offered, in order to cut HR costs. Maybe your company has a different arrangement where employees are the ones charged.

OK...I actually just tried using The Work Number, just to see how it works, and had no problems.

What you need to do is:

1. click "Enter Employee Section"

2. find your Employer Name or Code from list and click "Go" (this will bring you to your company's Work Number portal)

3. click on "I want to provide proof of employment AND income."

4. Login screen will appear asking for employee ID# and PIN. I forgot my PIN so I followed directions on how to reset it.

That's all there is to it.

 If you have proof of income, tax transcripts are free, tax forms, W2s, Pay stubs, all free and good evidence of salary and employment. My company as well doesn't do these letters as described, but I kept my initial letter of employment when my job was offered to me a few years ago. It states position and wage and it matches my tax forms and W2 and paystubs. Just gather as much as you can and you'll be fine.
