My fiancee's interview is next month in Nicaragua. I don't speak spanish particularly well and her interview will be in spanish since her english is only slightly better than my spanish. The question is, should I attend the interview or not?

While there is no requirement for you to attend your fiancee's interview, it is always helpful if you're there to answer any potential questions that the Consular may have.

Also, by you being there - this shows additional evidence to the Consular of your ongoing relationship and commitment to your fiancee and the process...

Personally, I know my fiancee will be a nervous wreck the day of her interview so I'll be with her for us to go through it together.

Good luck,

Al

I don't even imagine going to the interview without my husband. Even if it's not required it's something we are going through together, it's an important step in our lives.

Also, as someone said before, it will despite all or any doubts the consul might have about your relationship with her if you are there, together.

Good luck to you guys!

It may not dispel them all - they will probably be concerned that you don't share a common language, because how can you have a strong, stable relationship if you can't communicate? Be prepared to answer (and how you intend to fix it -- you learning Spanish, her learning English, both) that regardless of whether or not you go. Going may very well tip it in your favor despite the lack of a common language.

Moved from K-1 to Embassy - interview related

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I was told by, immigration attorney, that being present during the interview can be very influential. "CO views your presence as a sign of a true and commited relationship".

DakDawg, I hope you are not referring specifically to USEM, 'cause you know as well as I do, that in Manila, the visas fall like rain, and the Kano is not needed to there in person. Moral support vs Needed Presence to obtain the visa is an apple vs oranges comparison. Now consulates like Vietnam, China, India, Pakistan, Egypt, etc are another story. The Petitioner HAS to be in those places at time of the interview. Even just to get the lovely news that your case is going into AP for the next 2 years.

If you have the means to be with her on her interview that would be great. My husband wasn't there on my interview but yeah it must be nice to have someone to hold my hand but at the same time, I will be double nervous co'z I know my husband when he's nervous...he's even worst than me! LOL

So if you can fly there for her interview...GO GO GO!!! ;)

i was unable to attend the interview with my husband and he made out just fine. In a sense it was good that I didn't go because I probably would've screwed it up lol... If it eases your mind to go, then why not be there. If you have complete faith in your SO then thats your answer.

just my OPINION

While it definitely cannot hurt to be at the interview, but the petitioner does NOT HAVE to be at the interview with the beneficiary. My husband had his interview in Egypt and I was not there for the interview and it really would not have changed much had I been there or not since most interviews at the embassy in Egypt get put in AP. They do not get put in AP for 2 years as you have stated which I dont think is such a positive thing to say to people who are currently in AP.

I have wondered if I should go to my fiance's interview when the time comes, but once I found out that the American can't join in the interview in Finland, I really started to wonder how much it would actually help for me to be there if I can't be apart of the interview...
