Im sure it only happens once in a blue moon. Apparently that was my luck. May I suggest you ask them to have you fully put to sleep so you are not aware of what is going on.

But if I'm in that spot where I can feel them in my mouth but can't say anything or move, how will they know :o

Growing New Teeth with Stem cells stored in the Teeth!

Harvest a wisdom tooth, release the stem cells from the dental pulp then implant the cells directly into a severely injured tooth. For example, if teeth are seriously injured in a car accident, usually root canals are needed and the teeth die. Instead, using stem cells, the goal is to regenerate the pulp inside the teeth. “It would be like bringing the teeth back to life, sparing them root canals,” Dr. Robey said.

Lastly, if no tooth is present (whether by accident, severe dental disease, or a genetic condition such as cleft palate) researchers can take stem cells from unerupted wisdom teeth, organize them into appropriate three-dimensional structures, and give them the proper “cues” before putting them back into the socket where the tooth would be, like planting a seed in a garden and waiting for a plant—in this case a tooth—to grow.

Dr. Robey cautions that it may be years before research in the field reaches the point where it would be practical for people to start banking their teeth for stem cells.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. bottom 2 were impacted. Recovery wasn't that bad. I vomited for a day or so from the general anesthetic. Mine was done by an oral surgeon. My brother has his removed by a dentist and had a horrible experience and recovery.

Just beware of the dry-socket.

Yes that too with the dry socket, I had a dry socket with this years removal that I didnt have the first time. The dry socket was painful! but the oil pack they put in was GROSS... made all my foods and liquids taste like that oil. And when they took it out, it looked like a dried worm. Bleh!

I'm thirty and still have all of my wisdom teeth. However, there was some crowding in my bottom right jaw that led to a large cavity on the underside of the two molars in front of one of my wisdom teeth. As a result, I started to get significant pain and ultimately had the two affected molars removed under local anaesthetic last summer. It took an hour for the dentist to extract them -- they kept breaking when the dentist tried to pull.

Ultimately, I have no regrets for not having my wisdom teeth pulled. None of them have given me problems, and I DO use them to chew food.

I was told to have my wisdom teeth removed years ago but I didn't want to pay to have perfectly good extra teeth removed. Now I've been told by a couple different dentists and an oral surgeon that all 4 teeth should be removed. They showed me the X-rays showing that cavities are developing because I can't clean them easily.

They said the older you are, the worse it will be. At age 45, I won't be able to work for the next 5 days. I need to have my wife drive me from the dentist's office which may be scary when I'm drugged.

On the other hand, my Dad had his first wisdom tooth removed at the age of 88.

btw, aj, i had mine removed on the weekend as i was in an army school - couldn't miss the school.

had the lower 2 cut into quarters to remove them - army dentists didn't get all the fragments, so i had those working out while in the school. bleh.

so if you get it done, i expect you to go back to work the day after ;)

Hi Guys,

I'm a dentist and we do recommend to have wisdom teeth taken out if they are sitting in weird angles because sooner or later they will push on your teeth and cause crowding. Also, if the tooth is partially erupted it may be hard to clean in that area, therefore making the tooth in front of it more susceptible to cavities and, ofcourse, inflammation of the gums around the tooth itself. I had all mine taken out when I was 24 while I was sedated and I didn't feel a thing. The healing is a bit more painful but its its not horrible. If you have a big enough jaw where the wisdoms can sit just like the other molars do, then you don't need to take them out, but if you don't have room for them to come in, then get them extracted. I hope that helps!
