Well i have been here since july 7th, i started applying for all sorts of jobs about 2 weeks ago, walmart, target, different sales jobs etc. I don't have a degree and was not particularly focused on any career back in the uk.

On monday i start a new job as a sales and leasing consultant at a Lexus dealership.

I think my accent really helped me get the job, but i know i would never have got this opportunity in the uk. I am very excited about the future for me and my family.

Hi!

I got my EAD July 9, applied for SSN July 11, should be here by July 19. I am going to start work for a pre school/ day care on July 18. It's a $9/hr, 5-6 hours/day job (1-6PM) Mon-Fri. On Sat and Sun I have $10/hr babysitting job (no tax) for 7hrs. I tried applying for Walmart to work in the morning even for 4 hrs but they said I am over-qualified. Of course I am!hahah!I don't care. I live in a small town so hiring in human resources would be like 1 in 10000?hahha!

I have 9 years of human resources management and 2 years of teaching work experiences with US companies in the Philippines. I have a degree in Psychology and done with all my academic requirements for my MA in Industrial Psychology with only the thesis pending. But I am a pragmatic person. Anything that would be legally giving me $$$ that I know I like to do...working with kids is my love so am going to be fine. Still, am on the lookout for HR jobs in Bedford, IN or in its neighboring towns/cities. I don't drive yet cuz I no DL..waiting on SSN. :)

There is no menial job, just menial mentality - author I can't remember.

Good luck to all of us!

Just wanted to say hi, as I can't remember the last time I saw someone on here who is in Indiana. Just thought that you might try the Careerbuilder site, as that has been a better help for me than some of the other sites in terms of job opportunities.

Good luck!

I love the people, the free food, and the low level stress. I got darn lucky. Thank you Craigslist! good.gif

Congratulations Helen! That sounds like a great job.

My first job here was as a Key Holder in a stationery shop. Then I went to photography school... and now unfortunately I am back looking for USA job number 2 :( Ultimately I would like my career to be in photography, but it's hard to find steady work... I will need a day job too. If anyone can recommend a good temp agency, I would appreciate it! I am not finding much on Craigslist and other job search sites so far.

I started out as a sales associate in a retail store. It was a temporary job (in the days of the employment authorized stamp on my I94) and then I found an employment agency and they hooked me up with a temp-to-perm position at the company I still for. It's a University so I was able to get my MBA for free too, I worried that the foreign bachelors would count against me so going back to school has insulated me from that a little.

My first job was cashier (5 months) in the beginning I liked it but started to be bored. Soon after receiving my EAD.

Find an opportunity as a bilingual customer support for 3 months.

And after, I stayed home and care about my actual 20 months old baby.

I have an opportunity with my husband's family in the mortgage area but I will know for sure in 6 months.

In the meanwhile I'm looking "actively" something.

I came to the US as a student... My first job was research assistant for the department of computer science at my college. Finding jobs is really hard task. After graduating from college and adjusting my status I took me 7 months to find a job (major related)... I'm a business system analyst and my first day will be Nov. 7th,2011. During those 7 months I believe I was the only roofer (roofing) with a Master degree in the entire US lol....
