i got hired as a customer service specialist for a third party administrator of health insurance. I had to wade through a lot of job postings and ads but I finally landed a nice one about 2 months after I got to the US. I applied but didn't get hired at Macy's which in hindsight was a great thing since it had been part-time only. I had an interview with the manager who was uber nice and I got a free lunch from it too as we did the interview at lunchtime and she paid for the meal. Nyahaha. I have no idea if they did a background check but they did have me do some drug tests. I am doing full-time work now and for really great benefits and a good working environment. It is a fresh change for me since everyone is really helpful and there is no sniping or whining at work. Yup as my hubby said I sure lucked out! good.gif I

I've been able to work since September. For weeks I've been applying online and made numerous phone calls.

For people who are getting frustrated, waiting to hear something back is normal. This week my hard work is finally paying off. On monday I had my first job interview for a cashier position at The Home Depot. This afternoon I have another job interview at Payless shoes and on monday another one at Kohls.

Do as many job interviews you can and select what fits the best for you. I have no experience when it comes to sales since I've always been a CNA in my homecountry. I just want to start somewhere and get a paycheck so I can go to college for a while.

Don't give up!

I am a Registered Nurse in the philippines graduated 2006, i got here march 2008, got married june 08, took nclex november 2008, got hired same month and started january 2009 as icu nurse. At the moment, thank god im still working at same hospital, its been 1 year and 10 mos to be exact , plus having other part time job as RN. Will go back to school for my masters next spring 2011.

Looking back, i remember the times that i felt so lonesome at home, although i enjoyed taking care of my hubby, I still felt the sense of continuing my profession. For now, i'm just thankful...good luck to all of us

We're stuck for the past year trying to get through the driver's license handbook so she can take driving classes (driving school won't let her attend without a US learner's permit). She was driving on the international license but almost killed us 2 times in 2 days then wrecked my car into the house. I've got only one car so that's it for driving-I'm glad it still drives!

I don't see any motivation (just plays poker on the computer all day) so I think she'll be at home doing the same thing 5 years from now :o( bought CD's books, learn English everything but they're gathering dust.

I'm so lucky!

7/21/08 I 129f K-1 app given to Siam Legal Lawyers office

8/3/08 K-1 I 129f Sent (Atty Ofc made mistake delayed app, we learned later)

1/23/09 RFE Color Passport Picture

2/3/09 RFE Pics USCIS acknowledged

5/01/09 NVC Received

5/01/09 Left NVC

5/15/09 Embassy Sent Packet 3 (we did not receive-they have correct addresses)

6/19/09 Packet 3 to Embassy

6/28/09 Appointment (packet 4) never mailed, had to ask to get email-they've got correct addresses

7/23/09 Interview Scheduled for 7:00am (A YEAR AFTER SUBMISSION)!!!!!!!!!!! APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does your state have an online test for the permit? That's what my wife did-- had videos and then tests and she could use the handbook on the test itself. They send you a certificate which she used to get the learner's permit. She hasn't finished the driving test yet though.. she really doesn't want to drive but the only job offers she's gotten so far are too far to walk or bike ride so that keeps the motivation. Biking to the local community college for classes in the cold hasn't hurt motivation either ;)

To the original question: the job was in the bakery (customer service) of the local grocery store but they wanted her to work in a farther away one so she had to turn it down. Thai University degrees don't go far here but that wasn't a surprise to her.

I'm incredibly lucky. After a year of looking, I got a job in research at a hospital and prison. I get to work with all kinds of people from different backgrounds, I can choose my daily hours, and set my appointments when I want them (once I get to that, I'm still training). The people are nice... the pay is blah but the benefits are amazing. I just bagged health insurance for me and my husband and it's 100% paid by the company. I couldn't imagine having such a great job a few weeks ago. :)

Claudeth worked in the kitchen at the Hyatt in Irvine. It was a pretty good job but I guess she didn't like it so quit. Now she is wishing she was still there, life is tough without money to buy shoes :P

What is the deal with filipinas and shoes and handbags? I have heard related rumors of shopping "addictions" from more than one member...

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
