I was offered a job at Bank of America a couple of days ago, so I'm just waiting to hear final confirmation from them after the background check. It will be my first job here. And, funnily enough, it's was the second job I applied for after I got my EAD. Not actually as difficult to get a job around here as everyone keeps telling me.

Home Depot store associate. I got laid off after 3 months. The job was pretty awful anyway. I'm still looking for work while doing music gigs here and there. Session work and solo work.

I'm an office administrator/accountant. But I didn't get an interview for office positions. Not even for simple clerk positions. So I deceided to apply at stores and restaurants. :hehe:

I started working part-time one day after I received my EAD at a cafe on campus. I didn't like it.

3 months later I got a job at Subway. I started working part-time and got promoted to Assistant Manager 6 month later.

Another 6 months later I got promoted to Store Manager. I'm also a part-time student since last year (Health Care).

The job is stressful but I can pay the bills and I have health insurance since I became Manager. :)

Any suggestions for someone who is still learning English? My husband has experience back home but will need to take university level courses here to certify, and his English is not strong enough for the university right now. He's a full time student in private English classes, but what can he do for work while he is working on his language skills?

We arrived in October 2009, but didn't get to file for an EAD till December 2009. As soon as I got my EAD in February 2010, I applied for my SSN and got it within 10 days. My first job was a seasonal position at Lowe's, as a Customer Sales Associate. Had to stop working because I found out I was pregnant and all the heavy lifting the job entailed was something that could have jeopardized my health and my baby's. They were really nice folks though. :) Baby's coming real soon...late October/early November. What a way to mark our first year here! lol

Still looking for work, but hoping to find something part-time or as a telecommuter, preferably administrative. If all else fails, I am seriously considering going back to school (after we get our green cards).

Guys, did any of you experience delays with your background checks?

I've been a PR since July and I've been offered a position pending my background check. It came back saying it requires further review, I'm assuming because there is limited information because I've not lived here long?
