Interesting...so you'll be applying for reciprocity? In my case, I was certified in Delaware while I was in Canada and then applied for reciprocity when I moved to Indiana.

I don't know how it works.. I am a CPA in the Philippines but not here in the US. I don't think US is honoring my certification. I think I have to study again since the american standards (GAAP) are different from ours (we are already adopting IAS. How about you? What did you do to get you license here?

Since I was in Canada, it was best for me to get the CPA license through Delaware as that had the most lenient rules, which didn't require me to be a U.S. resident or have a SSN: all I had to do was pass the CPA exams and get two years of accounting experience working under a CPA/Canadian Chartered Accountant. Once I got the DE license under my belt, I moved to Indianapolis and had the reciprocity for the Indiana CPA license. Now, as a licensed CPA in the state of Indiana, I can work for a corporation or start my own firm.

Even with the license, though, it still took me about a month after I got my GC to get a job. I basically had one interview, and ended up landing it :)

Two months after I got my SSN, I was hired at Target as a Price Accuracy staff. I lasted for just about 2 months with the job, and I resigned even before the store opened. I do not consider it as my first real job because of the shortness of tenure. Well, I found a job (through the Internet) as a Purchasing Agent of an optical and eyewear product distributor, which market is world-wide. It has been almost 2 years now, and I am still here. I enjoy it.

I applied for my SSN with only an EAD. I came here on K-3. I started my first job with only an EAD and SSN - no GC at all.

Obvsiouly, the somebody you asked gave you a wrong info.

It is a question out of the main topic, but how could you get you SSN having only the EAD Card? I asked somebody who also made the AOS a year ago and she told me that this was possible until we get the green card. In my case I have already a previous SSN since i was first Au Pair and I had that due to my former job. Please let me know whatever info you know! Thank you in advance.

My first job in the U.S. was in the college dining hall as a freshman. Hated it.

Then I worked in the college library for three years. Great pay, but the early morning hours were a PITA.

I also worked as a student assistant for the History Department. That was my favorite job.

My first job in the US was as a Community Assistant in one of the dorms on campus.I had 3 shifts, two regular and one graveyard, from 4am to 8am.I actually opted for that shift myself! That job was good and easy.It was not a whole lotta money, but it helped me survive and eat out and spend sometimes,so am very grateful for that.

I ended up loving the graveyard shift the most.It would be eerily quiet, peaceful.I would while away time watching movies and not doing home-work which I should have

My husband had a hard time at first finding a job... we starting looking in late April after he got his ssn... he didn't find a job until maybe june at walmart... he had a stamp in his passport that was getting ready to expire so they let him quit until he got his ead... he got the stamp at jfk... he was so happy that they rehired him because they really didn't have to... he started as a cart pusher.. and after they rehired him, they let him work in the bakery... at least he's not out in the elements... it get pretty hot and humid in Birmingham

Passage Revelation 19:11:

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

"satan is real and he's playing for keeps
God is realer and we are His sheep
which side are you on, CHOOSE, start moving your feet
choose JESUS and have ETERNAL PEACE" by GOD to me on 9/26/10 about 2am
Thank you Jesus!!!!

My background before I emigrated to the US, was as a Materials/Metallurgical Engineer, working as a Project Management Consultant at an engineering company in the UK. My first job in the US was as a Mall Security Guard, just because I wanted to do something totally different. Funnily enough, that actually saved me from bankruptcy when I later moved back into the Engineering field and got laid off due to the failing economy, with a huge amount of debt to pay off - I was able to get a new job in just a few weeks as a Hospital Security Guard, and subsequently have been able to work all the overtime I want, do far more interesting work than anything else in my life, and been promoted to Supervisor as well as getting trained in Firearms, Taser, etc etc.

My rough plan for now is to go in the National Guard OCS program once I become a Citizen, do that for several years before looking at making a move into the Defense Industry or Law Enforcement.

Married to my USC Spouse in the UK 08/17/2006

Entered the US with my CR1 on 09/25/2007

Mailed I-751 application on 07/14/2009 to CSC

I-751 package arrived at CSC on 07/16/2009

Check cashed on 07/20/2009

NOA1 Dated 07/16/2009

Biometrics Appointment 08/21/2009

Touched 08/24/2009

APPROVED 09/14/2009

Card Production Ordered 09/22/2009

Card arrived in the mail 09/28/2009

Very interesting thread! It's nice reading other peoples experiences.

I was hired by an insurance agency a few months ago. I'm working as a customer service/account representative and studying to get my agents license, which will hopefully be happening sometime in the near future. I moved to the US fresh out of college and had very little work experience, but I found a company willing to bring me on and train me from the ground up. So far I really enjoy it!

I really enjoyed reading this thread too!

Well my husband received his EAD on June 14th and got a job as a janitor for an assisted living seniors building on July 1st. The crazy part about all this is that this was the FIRST job he applied for. He took his application there and we were afraid and took a chance and put the first day he could start was June 30th. He went back to take his resume and they hired someone. :( But for some strange reason they liked my husband on their first impression. They also liked his resume (kudos to his wife, lol). So they told him if something came up they would call. We kept looking in the meantime. Well the gentleman they hired, didn't show up after the first day and so they called my husband and he started 7/1. Full benefits, medical, vision, dental. 401k plan, 8 paid holidays + 2 floating holidays. 6 sick days/year and after 1 year he will get 2 weeks vacation!!! Who could ask for more, especially when the economy is so hard on US citizens let alone, foreign citizens....

He is now looking for a part-time job as well.. It's that on-going joke that jamaicans will work 10 jobs! That's hubby for ya!

Good luck to everyone :)
