When I moved to the USA in 05 I got a job with in a month as an Amazon temp for the holiday period and it sucked big time.

After the holidays I got a job as a technology sales person and after 6 months became a cable guy.

Stuck at that for 6 months before getting offered a job installing fire alarm systems by a customer I installed cable for.

I did that for a little over a year before getting laid off; spent 3 months unemployed before taking my job back at the cable company.

My wife got laid off from her job so we moved back to new Zealand where we spent all our savings being u, I got a job installing fire alarms here and have been at that company for almost 3 years.

At then end of this year we are moving back to the states as I have been offered a Job at the same company I worked in for 6 months in 2006 being a tech sales person but this time I will be doing a whole lot more than just sales.

as you can see I like to move around allot. Hopefully this new job will be one I can work in till I retire in 35 years.

I searched for jobs for almost three months before I got offered a job at a stand that sold cheap cellphone covers in the mall. By that point I just had to take anything! I went from being a legal assistant in New Zealand making $24 an hour to making $9 an hour. A while later I got a job as a bank teller which was better but still not making much more than that. I really want to move back to NZ in a couple of years as there's hardly any job opportunities here, it's pretty disappointing.

My first job in the states was as a precision test driver for Honda in the Mojave Desert. It was intense driving but really interesting. About a month after starting that job I also got another job co hosting a morning talk back radio show in the small CA town where we lived. Show got heard for hundreds of miles all the way to LA. That was great fun as I talked about the comical differences between Australia and the US. I did both jobs simultaneously until I quit because my 2 jobs put us into higher tax bracket and was costing us more for me to work than they were worth. Funny I've never quit jobs because financially it was the best decision to save money but hey this is America and anything can happen here. :) Now both myself and my husband are retired and are renovating our house doing all the work ourselves. Still learning and having fun doing it all. :)

The day after I received my I765-card I went to Manpower. I told them I wanted a job close to home because I don't have a car. They said there were some temp jobs available at Parker Hannifin so I started the day after as a packer.

After 2 weeks they asked if I wanted to become a picker, and a week later they asked if I was interested in working in the storehouse.

I earn a little bit above state minimum now, but I'm not complaining. It's a 15 minute walk and the people are very nice.

Once I've saved enough for a car I can start looking for something else.

I was a bicycle mechanic in Belgium but the people here are afraid of bicycles I think ;)

Yay, I can post here now because I'm finally part of the U.S. workforce! :) I was a nurse in the Philippines, but I'm not yet registered in California because I haven't taken the NCLEX. I wanted to get my foot in the door, though, so that I would have at least one U.S. work reference when the time came for me to look for RN work. Towards the end of January, I started applying for clerical jobs in the health care industry. In March, I received a job offer from one of America's biggest health insurance companies. It took them a month to finish the international background checks on me, but they did clear me, and now, I'm officially an employee of the company. I'm working in a support role for a team of care advocates, who are psychologists with PhDs and RNs with a background in behavioral health. I'm happy because I think I can use my position as a stepping stone for my career: Get my nursing license, continue my full-time work with the company while volunteering/working part-time in a mental health institute, and after a year or so of behavioral health nursing, apply for a move/promotion/transfer into a care advocacy role.
