When we went last May I recall the consular website noting that one US citizen was allowed to accompany the applicant. They were required to have their passport for identification. I just checked the website now and it doesn't mention that:

Consular-Related Visitors

The following persons may accompany a visa applicant during Consular-related visits:

Interpreter: Applicants may bring one interpreter if they do not speak English well enough to participate in an interview.

The working language of the U.S. government is English. the applicant is responsible for providing a translator for any language other than english, even if that language is an official language of Canada, i.e. French.

Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring one person to help if they are elderly, disabled, or if the applicant is a minor child applying for a visa.

Attorney: Attorneys will NOT be permitted to accompany clients into the waiting room or at their interviews.

Due to waiting room size, the large volume of applicants and the time required to screen consular clients, other accompanying persons cannot be admitted to the waiting room. Drivers, friends, and extra relatives must wait outside or return to meet the applicant after the interview has been completed - with the exception of applicants with children.

I wonder if they have changed the rules?

That is wht I read too...so I feel bad asking my Mom to wait in line with me at 6 am but then go wait in the coffee shop until I am done...Thankfully my mom understands!! Gotta love Mommies!!!!

Wellll...you were case complete at NVC less than two weeks ago, so it'll still probably be a little while for you. Maybe I'm wrong though -- with the amount of folks scheduled in the past month alone, it's anyone's guess!

I DO think that the days of waiting ten or more weeks for an interview date are over though.

Another question, do I need to obtain a new police certificate, or is the one I sent back in November sufficient? And will my husband need to fill out another I-864 form? o_o

my letter stated that the police certificate was received and accepted as meeting post requirements....

I don't think another is neccessary....but then again..I haven't got to the interview yet!!

i think you are doing what we all do...worrying that the ONE thing you don't have is going to be the one thing they ASK for! People keep telling me to relax. there are no 'special circumstances' surrounding my case...everythng has been accepted and approved...things should go smooth..

and on that note Biglos and LLG better posts reviews before I leave!!! LMAO!!

I have all of February and March to watch for reviews. I'm most nervous about the I-864, but it was accepted at the NVC stage. I mean, if we hadn't made the requirements, they would have sent us an RFE right? And my husband is refusing to do his taxes for 2009 until I'm in the USA, which will hopefully be before April 15. He's so stubborn. @_@

Actually, that might be rather smart of him, I think. I believe he can claim you as a spouse then, no?

Yes, if they accepted it at NVC they should accept it at the interview - generally. Short of being really prepared, unless you have a crystal ball, you can't second guess every single thing they might ask for.

There was that one couple where her husband was a scientist I believe, they asked him for his resume' and he was put in to AP for a month or so. I'm not saying that to worry anyone, and it's great that everyone is so prepared - but you also have to be prepared to submit something you may not have thought of.

I assume everyone will have the 2006 and 2007 returns on hand as well - if you only sent 2008

For two people the sponsor must earn $ 18,212.00 per annum, if that is the case, no reason to worry.

His 2006 and 2007 returns show him only making about 5-6k. 2008 was 12k. Will that matter? xD; but for 2009 he made well over the poverty line, including sign on bonuses and reenlistment bonuses. Well, it should go fine...NVC accepted it...so yeah >_>;!

Sorry to bug everyone. :(

But he must have had a co-sponsor, right?

And you're not bugging anyone! These sorts of questions are what this thread (and forum) is for!

Yeah, you're not bugging anyone!

I just remembered he is in the armed forces, so actually the figure is less $14,570.00 - but yes, 2009, current income, is most important.

I think it is rather sad that they need to have a lower level for those in the armed forces - I assume they are not paid as well as they should be! (but that's a whole other topic!)
