I don't think this is the correct forum for my question, but I couldn't figure out where else to put it.

I'm in Canada, wanting to send a parcel off to someone in the UK who is expecting a baby any day now. I haven't got her address yet from another person, so I can't look up the postal rates on Canada Post website. I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever sent a parcel to the UK and if it's very expensive. I doubt this parcel will weigh more than 5 or 6 lbs. once it's all packaged up.

Thanks for any replies.

Hmmm, try the online calculator - once you click "international", you don't need the postal code, well, not in most cases: http://www.postescanada.ca/cpotools/apps/f...?execution=e3s1

I never sent something that heavy to Europe, but my guess is that it will be horribly expensive. I prefer to order online from a French store and have it delivered now...

Once you find out the exact address why not also check out a courier such as Fed-Ex or UPS or Purolator? I find packages of that weight even going to Canada tend out to be more expensive using the postal system than using a courier. For example, my brother just sent me a large can of Tim Horton's coffee (aren't bothers great once they grow up?!) via Canada Post. It weighs 39 ounces (1.1 km) and it cost him $18. I was blown away by the price - that was more than the coffee! So, I expect your 5 or 6 pound item to the UK will be pricey through Canada Post.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yes, it does require a postal code. I tried it before I posted my question. But thanks anyway for the link anyway. :)

Actually I got a rate with no postal code, as La Souris mentioned, you can bypass that second postal code and just click the link for 'international'.

I used a 5lb package, 10 inches long, 7 wide and 5 high. Shipping from Calgary to the UK

It quoted rates of $78.50 for xpresspost international - 5 day delivery and $39.19 for surface

Oh and what I do when i'm not sure of a postal code but i'm using something online that requires it - for instance, for London, just look up the postal code for Buckingham Palace - etc.
