Yeah.... and if someone runs over a deer in the road they should be charged with manslaughter. Really Danno, could you be any more ridiculous?

I will assume you totally missed my point.

If an unborn human has no value... because it's not a human, why would an egg have value as it is not yet an endangered species.

*Actually I think the Bald Eagle is now in another protected class, they have had quite a comeback in population.

I saw an episode of Law & Order SVU last night on USA that had to do with some lady stealing frozen embryos and eggs from a fertility center and destroying them all and they were charging her and her husband with like an insane amount of manslaughter counts.

It's something to think about.

The thing that makes me a little sick to my stomach though is when some women get invetro, have a bunch of eggs implanted, they're all successful and then they decide that 4 or 5 kids is too much and they 'select' to terminate some of the embryos. I am sooo not okay with that. I just think it's f**ked up.

The phrase "unborn human" is an oxymoron.

To be human, you have to be born and alive and functioning on your own. A bunch of cells doesn't qualify as a human.

It's interesting that those that decide to "breed" lol, call those that decide not to, selfish, and vice versa.

You'll notice the only person who called anyone selfish in this thread is one who thinks people who choose to have children (aka "breeders") are selfish.

Breeders? Really? #######.

It's rather a bizare notion. If no one had children there would be no one left to be selfish or not. I'd like people in general to think more about why they have children and hopefully begin the long road to a sustainable human population, but breeders are selfish?

Yeah calling people Breeders might sound a little odd, but I know a lot of people who think like that and speak like that, so I wouldn't take offense to a word, it's just a word:

breeding - elegance by virtue of fineness of manner and expression

breeding - education: the result of good upbringing (especially knowledge of correct social behavior); "a woman of breeding and refinement"

breeding - helping someone grow up to be an accepted member of the community; "they debated whether nature or nurture was more important"

breeding - the production of animals or plants by inbreeding or hybridization

born and bred

I think in today's society, taking into consideration over-population, if one decides to procreate, think about the reasons why one would decide to do so, they are pretty selfish reasons in my opinion.

I'm bettin you are all for -minimum wage laws.

If it's my body shouldn't I have the CHOICE to decide what I charge for my labor?

Why would you want to push your labor law morality on others MR Hunt?

This is definetely a controversial topic in America, wow... in Europe it's no issue whatsoever and it's surprising to people there what a big issue it is here.

I think a lot of couples are deciding not to have kids these days, for so many reasons.

It's interesting that those that decide to "breed" lol, call those that decide not to, selfish, and vice versa. I know we are selfish, we have it hard enough with 3 dogs and we are a fun loving and adventurous couple who don't see ourselves being stuck at home with a kid changing diapers, so we're not even thinking about having kids yet and no time soon either, I don't see that being a problem, unless we do decide to have kids.

And when I do start thinking about the reasons I want kids, I have to admit, it's always selfish reasons: someone to enrich MY life, someone to 'take care of' ME in old age, someone to carry on OUR heritage, so I see both sides and I think neither is wrong.

The problem comes in when people who should really not be having kids, do, and then it's up to the tax payers to carry this burden in society. If I had my way people should have to have a fair bit of education, pass a course in parenting and be evaluated, just like this AOS process before being allowed to have kid after kid. But that aint gonna happen...

It's rather a bizare notion. If no one had children there would be no one left to be selfish or not.

In 1900, the world's population was only 1 billion; today it's over 6 billion and estimated

to be 8 billion by 2030.

I'll start worrying about "no-one being left to be selfish" when we're down to 1 billion or so.

It's either a truism or it's not. Procreating isn't selfish - that there are currently too many humans for the resources available and no plan to create a sustainable human population I do not dispute.
