I'm preparing to apply for citizenship and was wondering if any folks from the Baltimore DO have any experience with doing a name change. I know that Baltimore does same day interview and oaths. How much does the name change delay things? Any info is greatly appreciated and also if you could share your timelines with me. Thanks!

A name change requires an official approval by a judge before it can go through. Since it is unlikely the name change can be officiated on the same day as the interview and in time for a same day ceremony, it is pretty well guaranteed that you won't have a same day ceremony. Same day ceremonies are offered only to applicants who have completed their interviews successfully by about mid-morning of that day. If your interview is after 12 noon it won't be a same day ceremony just because of the logistics involved in preparing the paperwork. That is without a name change. The time delay will really depend on how soon a judge can make the name change official and how soon the next available oath ceremony is held.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yeah, very true. I'm quickly learning from browsing on here that there are a lot of "it depends" situations and will probably just have to wait to see how my case develops. Thanks!
