Me and my now husband got married on January 6,2010 and we have all the necessary paperwork for that stamped and approved. I am in Florida and he's back in Arizona where he is stationed. We got married in Florida.

Now we have the whole package assigned for AOS but we're just a little confused on where to start. Like for one; I wanted to change my name now or soon before any of these forms are sent in BUT so far no one can steer me in the right direction. An I've called around to many places. We are trying to get as much done as possible before he gets deployed in june and this is why we're so adamant about making sure that we're doing everything in order.

9/7/2010 Sent AOS package

9/9/2010 Package received at Chicago lock box

9/20/2010 Received first NOA for I131. (dated 9/17/2010)

9/29/2010 Received Biometrics letter and NOAs for I485 and I765(this was dated 9/21/2010)

10/19/2010 Biometrics Appointment date

10/04/2010 Received email of RFE for I485.Now waiting for it in letter.

10/13/2010 RFE received

10/19/2010 Got Biometrics done

11/02/2010 RFE sent

11/05/2010 RFE received

You change your name by using the married name on the forms for I-485 and other forms. You were a K-1 applicant? To speed up the process, you could add his deployment orders or a letter from command that he is scheduled for deployment. Then, you have the congressional aide for immigration follow up on the case after the submission. Do not forget to make copies of everything you sent and always use registered mail so you have proof it was received.

Best of luck to you!

Have your husband check with his commanding officer - the military is supposed to have designated personnel to assist with immigration, and you might be eligible for expedited processing, see below- Also search on here, I remember a military thread - Good luck!

Spouses of U.S. Citizens Deployed Abroad

If you are married to a U.S. citizen who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and your citizen spouse is or will be deployed abroad by the Armed Forces for one year, you may be eligible for expedited naturalization under section 319(B) of the INA.

If You Qualify

The process can be undertaken within the United States as well as overseas at U.S. embassies, consulates, and where practical, military installations abroad.

No fees will be charged when you file for naturalization.

You military installation point-of-contact can help you with your application and certify. Find out who this person is through your chain of command.

You will need to complete and submit the following forms:

* N-400, Application for Naturalization

* N-426, Request for Certification of Military or Naval Service (This form requires certification by the military prior to submission to USCIS.)

* G-325B, Biographic Information Military Personnel Office of Citizenship

Your point-of-contact will send your application packet to the Nebraska Service Center for review and to complete the necessary security checks. The packet will then be sent to your local office, or to a location you've specified in your cover letter. The local office will set a time for your interview and knowledge test. If all goes well, USCIS will let you know when and where you can take your citizenship oath.

Please don't hijack someone else's thread with your question. It is much more likely to be seen and answered if you post here:
