Going back to the op, once she leaves the US back to the UK obtaining that bc will be a whole lot harder. Since she had her daughter in May 09, she will have to get her medical records from the hospital that delivered her baby. Being out of the country will make it harder to obtain etc than being in person.

If the OP does not register the birth, then best thing is to, once back in the UK (or prior to leaving US) see what documents would be needed to register the "birth in a foreign country", this way she can be prepared in what will be needed document wise.

Also, Good Luck in that move back to the UK, I have been pondering moving back also, but the grass is green on both sides lol.

I am sorry for sounding like a broken record about the bc, but think about it, your Birth Certificate is the most important document you will ever need in life.
