I honestly don't see this helping any. Placing a moratorium on deportations to Haiti for 2 years? Good. Giving them a route to become legal, especially at the cost of everyone else? That's not okay in my book.

I am no where near versed in immigration laws. How is this a route for them to become legal? My understanding was that, after 1.5 years, they would revert to illegal status?

Exactly. As someone who filed for the K1 just this week, if that's true, the article doesn't say it. No sense being outraged if we don't even know it'll slow things down for us all.

I did not clearly see how it was going to slow down processing of other visa types, K1, CR-1s, etc.

Did I miss that in the article?

I don't see how giving the Haitians illegally living in the U.S status, helps.

First, they broke the law. I can see maybe speeding up the process for haitians filing, but not for ones that already live here.

Second, they're most likely already working here, so giving them papers isn't going to get them "in the work force".

Thirdly, the disaster that happened in their home country has nothing to do with the ones living here(aside from family, etc). They were already here when it struck.

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but I just don't see how it helps. IMO

This angers me beyond words.......

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/americas/h...ry/1436831.html

So I guess the USCIS can expedite and work the books to see paperwork faster if you meet a certain criteria (as in breaking immigration law and being here illegally)...but for those of us that have been following the rules and waiting - stand in line.

absolutely embarrassing.

This is wrong on so many levels, I dont know where to start.

Well, on top of that, the Haitian's are getting priority status now. I am sorry for what happened there, but you have people right her in our Home Country that have been waiting forever.

***** Great

Listen what happened in Haiti is tragic but nonethless we need to get our ###### together first

1. Unemployment is >10%

2. Social security wont exist for current taxpayers most likely as it will be depleted by current users

3. The health care is a mess

4. WHY THE F**** DID THEY MAKE ALL OF US PAY SUCH EXTRAVAGANT FEES!!! if they are really generous and not do ###### like this to gain publicity maybe they should introduce a much more ECONOMICALLY DISASTREOUSTLY HIT SPECIAL FEE SCHEDULE

Lets take care of our OWN house first! f*** politicians

I agree what happened in Haiti is terrible, but other countries have suffered tragidies also. When those happened there was no special treatment given. Send aide and relief efforts to the country yes but to give special treatment only causes resentment and bias. It is not so much a issue of waiting we all know that is part of the process, it is a matter of giving special treatment to one group and not to every group that has suffered some sort of tragedy as well. We either have to do it for all or do it for none. That is the only true way of making it fair to all nationalities.

I think it's funny how it's always the ones who are done with the process and now reunited with their SO who are quick to tell you to "calm down" or "be patient" or "relax." It's amusing that they've forgotten how awful the wait is and how painful it is to wake up every morning and see people who filed after you get approved.

Ok, I am in the middle of the AOS process for my now wife and I am NOT outraged. I was actually thinking whether these people will be able to find suitable jobs and be useful to the US and their own country ... I can see the "victims" screaming: "They will take OUR jobs!"

Don't you people care about others? Or are you guys so selfish that the only thing that matters is "ME' "ME" "ME"?

Yep, it looks like you're right.

The TPS designation is reserved for selected undocumented migrants from countries disrupted by natural disasters, armed conflicts or other emergencies.

Those Haitians approved will be allowed to stay in the United States for 18 months and be issued work permits to find jobs.

I don't see how anyone with a good conscience can complain about allowing people who already live here from a country that was just decimated to be allowed to legally remain here and earn a living for the next 18 months.

think of all the money they will have saved in 18 months ... and how they can use it to better their home country when they are returned.

What happened in Haiti is, without a doubt, very tragic. That being said, I disagree that this means that we need to give special privileges to people who illegally came to the US when so many people who are trying to do things the right way are paying so much money and having to wait for so long to fully being their lives together. Bad things happen - that's part of life. This is far from the first natural disaster to strike a country and it is far from the last - why all the special treatment now? Illegal immigration is illegal immigration. I don't know why laws are in place at all if we're just going to bend them all the time. I expect people coming to the US to be held to the same standards, regardless of where they are from.

I have a better solution: "Use this news to identify them all, round them out, and send them back to fight for their lives in a country with nothing to offer, not even a house to live in"

How would that feel if you were one of them?

Disclaimer: I am a USC too! :innocent:
