Gary--I'm glad you were able to visit your SO every six weeks or so but most of us on here don't have that luxury. I'm glad everything went well and smoothly for you. It isn't for us, and if I need to vent, I will, seeing that this is a free country and such.

Of course, what happened in Haiti is a tragedy, no one is denying that but the people who are being granted TPS are not the ones with their legs having to be amputated, no running water, no food.

And the fact of the matter is, with USCIS processing all these thousands of TPSs and work permits and whatnot, K-1s and CR-1s are going to take a backseat. It'd be different if they set up a different or new system to deal with it and let the others continue as before. If thinking about how it affects me makes me a selfish and shallow individual, then so be it.

now this group of illegal aliens will not be in the view finder of ICE for a few months ... gives ICE more time/energy to focus on another group of illegals .... wonder which group it will be?

eta:

looks like people didn't notice the hiring of more staff part and the temporary part. also didn't notice the stop in deportation. think the US would deport people back to this area? the people are already here ... more than likely working ... by getting the temp work permit they are effectively registering themselves. after the 18 months is up ... ICE can look them up and kindly suggest it's time to go home.

The hiring of more staff (albeit, I imagine, temporarily) might be a silver lining in this particular cloud. Even if the visa process does slow down, it would be wrong of me to put my wants before those of someone whose family is facing such devastation. If my CR1 is delayed, my family is not going to die. A lot of these 'illegal' immigrants need to send money back to their family to help them survive in the coming weeks and months.

My original comment had nothing to do with the Haiti situation, actually. Obviously, something does need to be done. They just can't be shipped back, not now, at least.

I merely referred to the phenomena of those who are through the process/had a short timeline/ reunited with their SOs are the first ones to tell you to calm down, be patient, relax and take a chill pill. Having quite forgotten the pangs of this hellish journey. It's something I've noticed all over VJ, in several threads and forums. That's all.

This thread is pathetic. So you might have to wait a few more months, bfd. Don't insult the people who have had / already are having extremely long wait times. Bunch of cry babies, sheesh.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

It's true (from the OP's article): "The money sent from Haitians living in the United States and other foreign countries represents more than one-third of Haiti's gross national product."

Yikes! What a lot of pressure to have on you. Makes me stop and count my blessings.

I'm the last person to tell someone to calm down under normal circumstances. Geez, my husbands away right now and it's only for a few weeks and I complain all the time about it. Can you imagine how I behaved when we were separated, even before we started the visa process? I haven't forgotten a thing.

However, I do think weighing things out and understanding that sometimes what you want isn't as important as what someone else might need is in order in this case. I'm sure I would have been upset about the wait if I were applying right now, but complaining about it wouldn't be an option for me when there are others in so much need.

some had/have long timelines. some are/were even separated during pregnancy. this does suck ... period. no arguments there.

the silver lining can be multi-fold IF properly executed.

assistance for people.

deportation for those people once the assistance period is over.

speedier processing times for others due to temp staffing increase at USCIS (wouldn't it be nice it you were a beneficiary of this?)

The problem I see here is that the people from Haiti that are here illegally weren't being deported in the first place. I agree that it's not doing a whole lot of good to deport anyone to Haiti right now. So just make a policy change and say that we won't be deporting anyone to Haiti in the near future. That doesn't require giving them any sort of status. This would actually free up USCIS, since they wouldn't have to worry about deportation proceedings for anyone from Haiti.

And to Gary, I think you are really out of touch here. Yes, you have to wait and we all realize that. That isn't the point. The point is that people who trampled the law and came here illegally are being given preferential treatment because of something that happened in another country where they weren't.
