So what's the dress code for the civil ceremony?? you just show up with the rings and the officiant signs the marriage license for you? or how does it go? I'm in Plymouth, MN.

You may wear whatever you like but you do want to look nice in your pictures though. It's a personal decision which is different for everyone. ^_^

Aside from other pieces of clothing that we had on our wedding day, we basically wore jeans during the civil ceremony.

the best of a civil ceremony is the simplicity. The ceremony details will be determined by you, and there's no limit

And then you bring your wedding rings too?

unless you want to use a robber band, don’t left them behind :bonk: ... Relax, is a very simple process.. You will be called in, and be done in a few minutes.. dress comfortable or fabulous as you wish.. bring your ID...

We did the civil ceremony and I was amazed at the variety of people's clothing. I wore a simple straight ivory dress and I was the only one! There was another bride in a black and white floor length 2 piece, then there were people in smart clothes and even people in jeans and sweats.

I was the odd one out but i really didn't care..it was my day but it was funny going through the metal detector in my dress and then being asked to lift it up to prove i had no weapons underneath!!!

Wear what you want and enjoy it!

I got married in jeans! I'm not kidding. I planned how to dress but i didn't have time to iron. After he had the marriage licence he called the judge and told him that in 30 min he will have the ceremony done. He come home after me and we went to get married.

I'm so embarassed that i got married in jeans  . These is the reason that our wedding pictures are confidential. I hope that our religious wedding will be better....

I've never heard of a state or county that has a dress code for civil ceremonies. My wife and I just wore the same casual clothes we usually wear.

Also, I don't know of any state or county that requires you to exchange rings at the ceremony. The civil ceremony is a public oath, so it matters more what you say (e.g., "I do") than what you do. The officiant at our ceremony did ask if we had rings and wanted to exchange them during the ceremony. In my wife's culture, rings are exchanged at the engagement ceremony, so we were already wearing our rings. We took them off and gave them to my daughter, who handed them to each of us at the appropriate time in the ceremony. We could have gotten married, even if we didn't have any rings.

Really depends on who is doing the actual ceremony.

I read a story where the person signing off the certificate refused to do so, because the bride drank alcohol the night before - that was pretty harsh.

(guess she didn't want people getting married drunk.... but... a night before?)

Personally, I wouldn't show looking like a slob - since you probably will have some pictures taken.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.
