WHAT IS THE MEANING OF AOS, EAD, & AP???

I'm gonna post this out in a main forum, for everyone's benefit.

AOS = Adjustment of Status: the process of applying for a green card once you've entered the US on a K1 or K3 nonimmigrant visa.

EAD = Employment Authorization Document: A card you apply for, during the AOS process, that allows you to work until you receive your green card. Note: You CANNOT work, as a K1, unless you have an EAD or a green card in your hand.

AP can mean one of two things. Most often, it means Advance Parole: a document you apply for, during the AOS process, that allows you to reenter the US if you have to leave temporarily, before you receive your green card.

In this instance, however, AP stands for Administrative Processing, which is extra background checks the consulates do after your visa interview and before approval. AP is very common in middle eastern countries in particular, and can take months.

BTW: You'll get more and better answers to your questions if you post a new thread, ninstead of burying the question in some unrelated thread.

What does BTW mean? :help:

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

It's the sound you make when your own major intestine, in a desperate attempt to save life and civilization, leaps straight up through your neck and throttles your brain.

AP also means Additional Processing at NVC...
