I don't like that most of the Americans don't know any world geography and their history.

I understand what you mean!

My husband is in the military so he knows about world history (even some parts of Philippine history - during the American occupation) and is really proud of being an American but I've noticed how a lot of other Americans don't really care about their history...

Have you seen the way they drive in India???

No wonder they don't give you a discount on your car insurance for driver history. Actually I had the same issue coming from Canada. I was considered a new driver. I could understand it if I were coming from a place where they drove on the other side of the road, had signs in foreign languages, different rules etc. But the differences for me were very little.

My complaint is that Americans tend to have bad geography skills. It's probably more pronounced depending on which area of the US you live in. But you have no idea how many people ask me where I'm from when I tell them I'm from Canada. I'll simply tell them Vancouver (since they wouldn't know the smaller cities surrounding it.) They look at me puzzled and ask where's Vancouver? If I tell them it's about 3 hours north of Seattle, then they'll understand where I'm from.

I can't see how a Canadian living in California could complain about living in a conservative area. Now out here, it's conservative. Too conservative for me. But I find the overzealous liberals are just as annoying. There is a new Planned Parenthood building set to open in south Houston. Naturally there have been huge rallies with protesters outside the building railing on about abortion. Planned Parenthood said that only 7% of their business deals with abortion. Most of it is information/counciling/low cost birth control etc. Then they protest that it's going up in a poor area of town.

It's so conservative here that when asked which church I go to (I don't), they look at me like I just told them that gravity doesn't exist. What do you mean you don't go to church?

Honestly, I find the minor differences like this to be interesting. Once you've been here for awhile, you'll find that Americans are pretty much like citizens from any other country. We all get up and go to work. We all grumble about the same issues. We all universally hate the other drivers on the road etc.

My husband is in the military so he knows about world history (even some parts of Philippine history - during the American occupation) and is really proud of being an American but I've noticed how a lot of other Americans don't really care about their history...

3 years ago I worked in customer service So I worked with regular people. I said 'most of the Americans don't know geography'.

They don't know where is Russia,Germany,Switzerland, Hungary etc. what is the difference between Austria and Australia etc. I can give you a lot of examples.

Of course I also met very intelligent people.

One more thing what is funny. Most of the singers when they go to have a concert in Bucharest they say ''Hello Budapest!!!!!'. This happens with 90% of singers.

Surprisingly, not a lot of the people I've met know much about the UK either. And I live in New England.

When they ask "whereabouts in England", I try to stick to "South West" to make it easier for them, seeing as they often assume I'm from London.

Of course that opens the door for many hilarious comments:

"Beautiful country... me and my wife travelled to Glasgow once, it was amazing"

"Oh so pretty close to Wales? I know a few bands from Wales, have you heard of them?"

"Are you from England or Ireland? I get them confused all the time"

"I hear you have a lot of teenage binge drinkers"

"I'm sure Tony Blair was doing his BEST with the country... he tried. And I'm sure that guy now is trying too"

You gotta laugh.

That depends on if you ask somebody from Quebec or somebody from the rest of Canada. While it's true that Quebec is a province in Canada, they refer to their provincial legislature as the national legislature.

I understand what you are saying. From my perspective , all the OP`s comments are at the risk of almost being insulting to any US citizen, especially coming from someone who made a choice to come and live here and instead of appreciating the good things , is trying to find the negatives and actually inviting other people to do the same.

No offense to the OP or anyone else.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

they are especially insulting to USC born in America who have lived in india.

Medication seems called for, and heavily, on everyone's part. What bugged me (when I was single) the most about Quebec is that the women in Montreal are the most physically beautiful in the world, yet without exception they're stuck-up snots, si man.

The one in Texas that cracks ME up the most is "Loose Gravel." The gravel should develop better morals, si man!!!!!

The obvious question, ergothuswithforthly, is: why should people be concerned with OLD England if they have a NEW England, si man?

Also, it has just been reported that antelopes with British accents live in Gnu England, si man.

I can't see how a Canadian living in California could complain about living in a conservative area. Now out here, it's conservative.

Obviously you haven't spent much time in the Central Valley. Southern California? Sure, they're pretty liberal down there. Not so much in my area. I didn't say that I was surrounded by ultra-conservatives (like the kind you'd find in the southern US) but only that they are far more conservative here than what I'm used to. The attitudes and movement here against the poor/hispanics/illegal immigrants can be shocking at times (to me). That's all I was saying.

It's exactly the same here, in Southern Illinois. When most folks think of Illinois, they think Chicago, Cook County etc, but the Southern part of this state is hicksville, let me assure you. And for hicksville, read bible-belt. I deliberately antagonise them by wearing Slayer T-shirts with stuff like, 'I've Made My Choice - 666" and, "God Hates Us All" emblazened all over them. I refer to them as, "God bothering c**ts" on my Facebook page, and like you, take every opportunity to tell them that I'm not remotely intetrested in their, "imaginary friend", taking great delight in the subsequent reaction.

Like Gemmie said - ya gotta laugh!
