It is absolutely forbidden to have any sharp blade on a plane, including small pocket knives and key-chain knives.

Anyone else would either defend their original comment, or apologise for being offensive, only you can completely deny you made it. The person who questioned your ability to step to one side and take an objective look was absolutely spot on. Charles, you suck.

and once again, she resorts to personal insults. bravo!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Yeah, who cares, the french deserve it.

Resort to insults? I don't resort to anything, I deliberately decide to use them, if and when I do. I stand by what I say, you suck, you lack objectivity which for a semi moderator is a bit ridiculous.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

The rafts your talking about are the emergency exit slides - that is why they were attached to the plane.

The Airbus remained afloat, though partially submerged, so there wasn't much danger in it pulling down these rafts.

However, it is simple to release the slide from the aircraft, and located on the raft, next to the "string" that is remaining connected to the aircraft, is a knife, made to cut that string.

Here is a video showing this:

XKBDJNxeFLQ

The aircrew should of did this.

Your right about the pax not being trained - in fact, one pax opened up the rear door (which they should not of done in the water) causing the plane to take on even more water. (if they would of looked at the emergency card, it shows them not to do this)

There was a show on how pax respond in a fire on a plane (once it was on the ground)

No training = 80-90% died

Training = everyone lives.

Simple enough, suppose those passengers were in a semi-state of shock and surprised that Discovery Science program didn't mention that. They did say the pilot had to have the attitude of the plane precisely at 11 degrees when touching the water. Found that to be a little too far fetched in my own training. Never ditched a plane, bit to expensive, but would practice over a long runway, trick is to maintain the plane slightly above stall speed that automatically gives a nose high attitude and just let it settle. Want the plane to be at the slowest speed possible, but still flying before touching down.

They said the co-pilot was kept busy in attempting to restart the engines, will the PIC was busy trying to find a place to land, were at 3,000 feet that was good. But I don't understand why at least one of them weren't looking out the window for geese. See those all the time in early spring and late fall, by the thousands. Have to fly over, under, or around them, but sure helps to look out the window, they don't fly at night.

no, you can't put a knife on yer person or on a carry on. You can put it in checked luggage, but I'd wrap it well.

If this was of high interest to you, you'd be studying dense plastic and how to make serrations, yes?

You really don't get it do you? It's not so much what you said, the comment was flippant and not something a representative of VJ should be posting but in the scale of things it wasn't that bad in and of itself. What I object to is your pathetic denial that you were flippant, who do you think you are trying to kid? I object to this because, as a moderator, I am supposed to respect your integrity. Frankly, I don't respect you, I think you are a wanker plain and simple and this type of posting illustrates perfectly why.

As a pilot, extremely interesting, even more interesting since we have a flight over water scheduled. Now this ill fated flight was only 1/2 mile off short and within 3-4 minutes after it ditched, 3 ferry boats surrounded it picking up passengers. The Airbus did have inflatable life rafts where one didn't automatically inflate so a guy had to jump in the freezing water and pull some kind of lever. What really struck me as unusual, these rafts were somehow strapped to the plane, and as the plane was sinking was pulling the rafts down with it.

Apparently most of the passengers were not trained troops and it was taking forever to get them out of these rafts into the ferry boat. They were screaming for knifes so they could cut those straps. No detail on whether these straps had pins or buckles on them to release them from the sinking plane, but people on the ferry boats found knifes they could toss down so the passengers could cut themselves free. If not, they would have gone down with the plane so the narrator of this said but happy story said.

Our crossing is more like a thousand miles over water, so kind of thought, maybe it would be nice to have even a small knife in my pocket. But no way, if that happens to us and the plane sinks, we are dead, I cannot swim 500 miles. So while we are safe, we are unsafe, but maybe their is a pin or a buckle, and selected a Boeing aircraft for our flight.

Does anyone here know why Airbus would attach life rafts to a plane with a strap that can only be removed with a knife you are not allowed to have?

Its a good question, but somehow I don't think its going to be answered in this thread ;)

Dear Cleo and Charles (Charles and Cleo? )

hey - this smells of an ongoing conflagration. Can you two agree to not dip it into the next thread that comes up?

Surely there's an OLDER thread, somewhere, that you can keep adding to, yes? I'd be happy to read that, every day, for any new stuff that 'pops up' between you two.

M.Cleo - I get it, 100 percent.

Charles - I understand, sometimes one isn't thinking about 'mod responsibilities' when making flippant comments, even in an off topic post. You are supposed to be held to a higher standard - I invite you to remember that, when it 'goes south again'. I know - it sucks, yes? to be able to seperate 'Charles the VJ Member' from 'Charles The Mod' - so, I have deep understanding of that 'two-personality duality'.

to any mod reading this - hey ! can you snip out the banter twixt M.Cleo and Charles here , along with this post o mine? TIA !
