Judgmental comments are inappropriate and unnecessary. If you have nothing useful to contribute to the conversation then please do not say anything.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We had thought about flying back to thailand for her birth but I'm not sure of how late into her pregnancy she can fly internationally (even with a doctors approval). I've been reading that 32-36 weeks is the lastest that airlines will allow her to fly...and that's even with a doctors approval. Anyone know for sure?

first of all ,a big congr! and I'm sorry about ur situation. I can imagine it must be hard.

I'm also currently pregnant and still in Canada ,but I might need to move to US while pregnant.(I do have the insurance already ..so hopefully we will be covered)

To be honest ,I like the Thailand idea and I suggest you to travel during the second trimester( week 13 -week 27) instead of the third trimester( week 28-week 40)

I've been searhing on the internet and most doc. do recommend flying during the second tri. as well....

If u decide to deliver it in US,good luck

You are both adults and knew the possibility of her becoming pregnant and should have thought this over prior to canceling health insurance. Now you want all of us tax payers to provide you with free medical coverage. You never considered birth control??

It is like this "If you want to play....You have to pay"!

Where did the OP state he was seeking state funded medical treatment? He made statements to the contrary when he said he was sure his wife was ineligible.

He asked for insurance information and birthing options.

Unless you have something more meaningful then judgment and ridicule to contribute, stay out of it.

Does your husband have insurance already though his employer or privately? Just make sure he adds you to his policy as soon as you enter the US. If he waits longer than 30 days= then he can't add you until open enrollment which is usually the end of the year- for coverage at the start of the new year.

Does your town or city have like a city hospital? They usually offer their own assistance program. When I was pregnant and I wasn't a resident yet, and even as resident, I qualified for that and paid 20 bucks per visit and my delivery was free, that was covered by medicaid (emergency only).

Eshansmommy,

Did you have any ultrasounds whatsoever and it was only $20? So you were approved for medicaid?

Thanks

It amazes me how some Americans like yourself have no problem with tax payers helping to set a guilty man free ("if you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you"), but you have such a problem with tax payers helping provide medical coverage for a person in need.

That's the only thing I dread about moving to the US - the "every man/woman/child for him/herself" attitude so many people exhibit. And the misguided belief that it's better to have the greedy profit-driven insurance companies dictate what health care you can receive, rather than a privately delivered /publicly funded system that Canada and most industrialized nations have (in which health care decisions are between the patient and the doctor, not the patient, the doctor, and the insurance company...or the patient, the doctor and the gov't like so many Americans mistakingly believe it is in Canada). I will greatly miss our Canadian values in that sense (that we consider quality health care a "right" for every person not a "privilege" for those who can afford it), but thankfully there are still many Americans who share those values.

My ex-wife became pregnant while on Deproprevara. She got her shots on time, every time - but sometimes thing happen for a reason.

7 years later, I have an amazing son and I can't imagine my life without him.

All forms of birth control have a failure rate, even condoms. The OP and his fiancee did nothing wrong, nor should they be made to feel as if they did.

Contact your local United Way and inquire as to what programs are available for you. Also, you may want to try the local Puclic Health office and find out if they have any low cost birthing suggestions. Worse comes to worse, most hospitals will accept payment plans and NO hospital can deny admitting your fiancee when it's time to deliver.

No need to pay $10K to a hospital when you can get a midwife for about $350 and give birth at home. Hundreds of generations have done that, for thousands of years, literally, and my brother and I've been born exactly the same way. In my opinion, the only reasons to go to a hospital for child birth without health insurance:

1) Money really doesn't matter

2) Anticipated complication at birth

3) Excited about a Caesarian and fan of scars

An experienced midwife does exactly what an obstetritian does, minus the cutting.

Dont know what midwife you got quoted by, but I wouldnt trust anyone that charged $350 for a home birth. My wife wanted a home birth with a midwife after having a midwife for my sons birth in the UK. We paid $2500 and the insurance wouldnt cover it, despite the midwife being a certified RN and certified Midwife. So we just put the money aside with my works Flexible Spending Account scheme and paid her that way.

Anyway the whole process was smooth, wife had a water birth and had the birth exactly as she wanted. the midwife came to our house from about 2 months out, came once a month until around 7 months, then every two week. Was always a phone call away and was very knowledgeable. Having the birth at home was awesome, she started contractions in the morning and spent the day watching tv and listening to music while we waited. The midwife came when we told her the contractions were getting closer and the baby was born about 2 hrs later, couldnt have a hospital birth after doing it at home.

Anyway I know that not everyone could do that, some woman feel more comfortable at home, my wife just wanted to make sure that she had the birth exactly as she wanted, without a doctor doing any interventions. We also have a major hospital 2 blocks away so that offered some comfort if anything untoward happened.

problem is that: when you are PR with "support"(read: form I-864) you are not sure if it wouldn't be a problem in the future,

when You got help from your state:-(
