Hello everyone,

Once again, I am mining for information! My husband got his visa yesterday in Casablanca. It was a very fast process -- 1 month from petition to visa-in-hand! There are horror stories coming out of Casa but DCF is the way to go!

His visa is CR-1 because we are recently married -- so I understand about the need to petition to remove the conditional status before 2 years is up. I have some other questions, though, that may seem silly but I am really new to this, SO...

1.) The visa says it expires in 6 months -- is this just for travel purposes? I.e. once he comes to the states, he will have his permanent resident card waiting for him (he he travelling in September) and can he then use THIS to travel back and forth from the states? In oter words, is the green card the only document he needs to travel from the states to Morocco and vice versa?

2.) How will this new status affect his ability to travel to other countries? And if he needs to layover in another country for a few hours en route to the states, will he have to apply for a visa for that country? Or does it not matter if he is just in the airport?

3.) We aren't sure we will really stay in the states forever - we might just live there for 1 year or so. Will coming back to Morocco to live for a while mean he loses the visa? Will we be punished for that?

The consulate just gave him the visa and no questions were asked -- my husband is too nice to ask questions. I, on the other hand, thrive on asking questions! I appreciate any help.

The visa needs to be used within 6 months of being granted.

Congratulations on the visa

Amanda,

He doesn't have any new status until he enters the USA. All he has now is a visa.

Once he does have his LPR status, check here when making international travel plans.

Amanda,

His green card, when he gets it, basically only gives him permission to legally come in to the US. As for other countries, you have to check on what they require. For example in most European countries, if from Morocco, to do anything but switch planes in the same airport requires a transit or visitors visa (depending on the situation).
